Rolls Royce Phantom V 12 Review
Beware the Phantom
The name Phantom has been carried by Rolls Royce for quite some generations. To be precise the Rolls Royce Phantom V 12 is the sixth generation in the line. There is a slight twist to this newest version however and that too in terms of its engineering and technology. Constructed under BMW AG as its parent company, the super luxury mobile has all the class of German engineering. The space frame body along with the engine of the Phantom V 12 has German origins whereas England is credited for developing the interior trim and final assembly.
Basically the Phantom has posh and stately look as has been the trademark of Rolls Royce. Known as the saloon instead of sedan in Britain the car is a symbol of elegance with its broad shoulders that may even seem a bit too broad for those with a contemporary flavor. The back seat doors are the rear hinged which not only make getting into the Rolls Royce easier they add to its style as well. The doors are also embedded with electronic locks to prevent them from swinging open on the drive. Although the Phantom will showcase the traditional Spirit of Ecstasy emblem on the hood it is detachable to prevent it from getting stolen.
Under the hood of this big car is the BMW engineered 6.75 Liter V 12 engine. The car delivers a staggering 450 hp which is more than ample for the bulky Rolls Royce. The car is available in a six speed automatic transmission which is operated through a column mounted shift lever. The lightweight and durable space frame has been constructed out of aluminum. To keep the bulky car tractable on the bumpy roads and curves the car is endowed with height adjustable shock absorbers and a double wishbone suspension. Keep in mind that this is no sports sedan that you are driving.
The wheels on the Phantom V12 are massive and the tires are run flat. If you are looking for sportier handling then you have the option of getting performance tires that will better do the job. The wheel cap is situated on the center of each wheel which is engineered in such a way that the RR logo remains upright while the wheel cap rotates freely. The car also provides on hand stability control in cases where severe handling is needed. Further more this big machine is endowed with ventilated antilock disc brakes in the front as well as the rear which provide for precision braking.
