Tata Indica Review
Its big, its small it’s the Tata Indica
The success of India’s leading commercial vehicle producer Tata Motors has spilled out of its home land. No longer is the Tata’s popularity confined with the borders of India. With models like the Tata Indica the company has managed to attract the attention of foreign buyers which has resulted to the car being exported to other countries. This hatchback car has managed to make its way to Europe and South Africa for retail purposes. MG Rover also imported the Tata Indica to the UK and branded it as the City Rover.
The Tata Indica was a revolutionary achievement for the Indian based company. This particular car was Tata’s most modern car in terms of design in the history of the company’s manufacturing business. Marketed with slogans like “More car per car” and “The Big, Small Car” it managed to take the not only the Indian but the world wide market by surprise and success. Tata shares the credit of manufacturing the Indica with the French car manufacturers Peugeot. Featuring a 1.4 petrol or diesel engine the car was designed as a five door compact hatchback. The car also offered a host of other standard features like air-conditioning, power locks and windows. The Tata Indica managed to break the cycle as such features were previously only to be found in high end cars.
The outer body of the Indico was designed by the I.D.E.A Institute of Italy with active involvement from Tata’s own design team. The engine design was developed by Peugeot and assembled by Tata motors in India. The general public is however of the belief that the whole car was developed and designed in India but this is quite contrary to the truth.
After the initial tests and runs the car has received some very commendable reviews. The thing that makes the Tata Indica unique is the fact that you have the whole packed up machine available at quite an affordable price. Considering the fact that it features a 1.41 8 valve petrol engine also available in diesel the selling price of the Indico is quite a bargain. The engine provides the car with great power but on the same hand the intelligent engineering makes the car very fuel efficient. The car has all the specs of a high end car but it is made available to the public in the range of bottom end economy family cars. This is one of the things that sets the Tata Indico apart from other cars of its like.
