1) Always back up your files. There is a remote possibility that your hard drive could fail or you could encounter a lethal virus that could wipe out your whole hard drive. Invest in USB sticks and back up your important files. Another way to backup is to partition your hard drive and keep copies of important files on each partition. Software such as partition Magic or Handy Backup can help with this. You could also obtain an external hard drive and backup using Norton ghost.

Ways Increase PC Performance

2) Viruses can be backdoors into your computer, making your computer crash or even worse letting hackers gain access to your personal information. Always use an anti-virus program and had it regularly update. You can get some free anti-virus software from the Internet such as AVG, so there is no excuse to keep your computer vulnerable to attack.

3) PCs can be vulnerable to attack even without viruses. Hackers can detect your computer on the Internet and attempt to upload viruses without your knowledge. Therefore it is important to get a firewall. Again firewalls can be obtained free on the Internet one example with the zone alarm. Make sure you set the firewall to on.

4) The recycle bin on the computer is one of the most overlooked items. Remember once you deleted the program or a file the unused files will stay in the recycle bin until you’ve emptied it. Only by entering the recycle bin you free up the space on your hard drive.

5) Defragment your hard drive at least once a month. The defragment tool is available in your system tools. This will ensure that your most commonly run programs will start faster and your overall experience will be smoother. You can also use tools like JKDefrag or Smart Defrag.

6) Make sure you use a Registry cleaner to keep your computer running smoothly. Registry cleaners are available free online.

7) Temporary Internet files especially cookies can clog your hard drive resulting in poor performance of your PC. You can usually quite easily get rid of the temporary Internet files using the disc cleaner in Vista, going to the tools in Internet Explorer.

8 ) Desktop PCs the CPU usually has a fan that cools the processor down. Fans can accumulate dust particles and prevent the blades from going round which will result in the CPU overheating. This can reduce the performance of your computer. Remove the dust particles with a cloth and below the rest of the particles away making sure that you don’t touch the components on the motherboard. Keeping your processor cool is very important.

9) When you install some programs they are automatically placed onto the startup programs list. You may find that after doing a lot of installs your computer may take a long time to startup. Go to the startup items list by going to “run” and typing “msconfig”.You’ll then get a list of the startup programs. Here you can uncheck any programs that you don’t need.

10) Spyware and adware are very similar to viruses in that they can slow your computer down. These can invade your privacy and even damage the PC. Windows vista has a free spyware and adware scanner and of free adware spyware scanners on the Internet such as Spybot search and destroy.

Computer is a wonderful technology that helps us to do many things. With the advent of net the usage of computers has increased tremendously. You can find computers not only being used in offices and companies but almost in every field including for domestic purposes. These days many people own either a PC or a laptop just for their personal use. Working with the computers becomes a tough job once a lot of garbage sets in as a result of browsing the net. You need to have clear idea as to how to clear out this junk information that lies around in your system from time to time.

By following simple guidelines you can always maintain your system and see to it that it runs smoothly along with making sure that Windows is faster. Let us how you can make use of the tools that are available with the Windows XP Service Pack which will help you to safeguard your computer and also help you to safe guard your privacy when you’re online.

You should learn to free up your disk space as it would help to improve your computer performance. The disk cleanup tool will help you to free up space on your hard disk. This utility will enable you to identify the unwanted files and will help to permanently remove the same from your hard disk.

Increase Speed Windows Computer

This will help you to remove temporary internet files. Remove some of the downloaded programs like the Microsoft ActiveX controls and Java applets. Help to empty the recycle bin. Remove windows temporary files. Remove unwanted installed programs that are used no more.

Disk fragmentation would slow down the performance of your computer drastically. This is will increase the time that the computer will take to search for a file that is fragmented and put it together. Disk De fragmentation is the best solution to this problem. This windows utility will help to consolidate the fragmented files and folders on your computer so that it would occupy single space for easier and quicker access.

Apart from running the Disk Cleanup and the Disk Defragmentation utility you need to optimize the performance of your computer. This can be done by the Error checking utility. You can find that the bad sectors present in your hard disk can slow down your hard disk performance and make the writing of data on to your hard disk difficult. The error checking utility will help to scan your computer for bad sectors and check if certain files are misplaced. It will help to remove the bad sectors from the hard disk.

Spywares are a great threat to your personal data when you browse through the web. It will also hamper your system performance. There are a number of free anti spywares that are available on the net. You can download these spy wares and protect your computer and your personal data.

I have been listening about the terms Streaming Videos & Downloading Videos from the past few years but never understood what they really mean and where can i see them being implemented in my daily life. Is it hard to understand the differences and can you give me few examples of the same? – Question by a Blog Reader.

Youtube vs Hulu

Here is a very interesting topic which was asked by one of our readers through email where in he is confused with the words ‘Downloading’ & ‘Streaming’ because at the end he is just viewing the same video, then why are different words used and well in layman’s language this could be the same stuff but technically there is a lot of different in both of these.

There are many reasons this difference would be important to be clarified because if you are using a Download Based Internet Usage plan then you would be fearing that you will be billed everything you view your favourite Youtube video and if each time streaming and downloading is counted towards the download access charges. While you view any Youtube video it comes under the download charges because in that case the video file is being downloaded from the Youtube Servers to your Computer and then is played in the same player.

The Streaming concept is something different where is there is no file but data is sent from another server to your computer. In case of viewing any videos what happens is that the files start downloading to your computer and are stored in your Browser’s cache memory while you start viewing it. If you just start the PLAY button and then click on PAUSE then the file starts downloading with the downloading position being shown on the Player in a different to give you the live status on how much is the data downloaded.

Here is a small screenshot of the Youtube Progress Bar which shows you the real time progress on the download status of the file from their servers to your browser and this is done in background. When its completely done you can directly click on PLAY and watch the video perfectly without any hangings in between since the data is already downloaded. If you have a Slow Internet Connection then the download bar would move slowly rather than the Play one then the video would struck there itself and wait for the download to complete and then continue playing.

2012 Movie Trailer HD

When you close the tab after viewing the video and revisiting the same tab after few minutes or hours you will find that the video directly starts loading because the content of the video are already stored in your browser and this is the situation where in you wont be charged for again downloading the video saving your broadband bills. If you close your browser and relaunch it or else Delete your Cache files then for sure you will be losing the downloaded content, following which when you click on the Play Button the video will again be downloaded from youtube servers and you will be again charged for broadband usage.

Youtube Video Slider

While Youtube.com works on the Downloading Videos System, Hulu.com which offers similar video sharing service but with super high quality works on Video Streaming System where in when you click on the PLAY button the video is streamed from Hulu servers. In this case there may be a small amount of buffering before the video is played on the player but its not cached and you are left with no option if you restart the video at the end or in the middle because it again starts streaming from the hosting servers. Streaming Videos can cost you a lot in terms of broadband usage bills because everytime you play the videos they are directly transferred from the servers to their player for a fixed period of time and then since there is no cache feature you cannot replay it. The streaming system is not generally recommended because of its lack of features.

How Video Streaming Works

There are tons and tons of advices which you find every where, about how to increase the speed of your internet connection. Here is one among those which is really simple but powerful and effective. You would have got fed up, by listening to all the advices, which you have already heeded to, this is another one, but this is a much more different and effective means of functioning of faster internet. It is not really as difficult as you think. It is a much simpler to get a faster internet. Not more knowledge is important for you to make this job done.

Increase Internet Speed

The main thing is that you should not do the mistake of down loading the free software’s that are available through out the internet. Most of the software’s are bombarded with the spy wares and eventually bring the internet speed down. If any of the Personal computers are infected by this spy ware, famous software called the ad-aware can be added to the application and hence spywares can be removed easily. Internet Speed Check Tool

The second step is the most important step among all the others, to make your personal computer get internet speed faster. Click on start button and then run button. Then type the word msconfig in the run tab. The next thing is to go to the start tab and removing all the programs except the anti-virus software’s. While removing any software, make sure that this software is not required for the starting of the computer. If you have doubts about the function of the software, it is better that you go to Google and search for that word by which you could find many pages regarding that particular software.

Next is the step 3, which can be done in a regular daily basis by clearing the internet cache. Click on the start menu and then click on the control panel, in which you can see the internet options. It is better that we do a virus check in a weekly basis. The best options are to set the internet history for two days. The next thing to do is to delete the offline contacts, which is a temporary internet file. Cookies might delete many of the important files so we must be careful in deleting it. The most important thing is to have a antivirus software in the system as a single virus can create big disaster in your computer. So take good care of your PC!

Google saves all your search history when you are logged in to your google account and this web history can be accessed by you anytime. Search history starts as soon as you search on Bing and will continue to grow for the duration of your current browser session, with a maximum session time of 48 hours, unless you choose to turn search history off. You’ll see your most recent search history on the left side of the search results page. To see your entire search history for the current browser session, click see all under your history. The very same way Bing also saves up all the search history and if you want to disable this stuf you need to perform the following steps.

Turning off search history

Turn search history off at any time by clicking turn off on the search results page or click turn history off on the search history page. Turning search history off effectively pauses the feature. No clicks and no searches are shown for the searches you do while you have history turned off, but turning history off doesn’t delete any of your existing search terms or click information. If you have either JavaScript or cookies disabled in your browser, you may have problems turning off search history. Try enabling both JavaScript and cookies, and try again.

To turn search history back on, simply click turn on.

Clearing search history

There are several ways of clearing search history, depending on how much information you want to remove.

Clear an individual query from search history by clicking see all to go to the full page of history, and then clicking the X next to the query you want to remove.

Clear your entire search history by clicking clear all.

Clear your entire search history by simply closing your browser.

Your search history will automatically be cleared if you close your browser window or leave the page open for more than 48 hours.

You can also use your browser to delete search history.

I have been using the built-in search box which comes preinstalled in my firefox browser, and daily i make some searches, but i recently found that when i just start typing something in the same search box, the previously searched keywords diretly show up there, revealing all my previous searches which is not a good feature. Anyway i can disable this feature to remove or hide the previous searches? – Question by Ashwin Kumar

Ashwin based on your question i can understand that you can remove all the recent searches you had made on your browser and make sure no one else access it. These are different settings and options based on the browsers and you need to perform different steps for implementing this. Lets check out all the options for the most used browsers ie Firefox, Internet Explorer & Safari.

Deleting Past Searches from Internet Explorer :
If you are running Internet Explorer 6,7 or version IE8 then perform the following steps in your IE browser.
1. Click the Tools menu.
2. Select Delete Browsing History .
3. Click the Delete forms button.
4. Click the Yes button in the confirmation window.
5. Click the Close button.

Removing Searches in Mozilla Firefox :
1. Click the Tools menu.
2. Select Clear Private Data.
3. Select Saved Form and Search History.
4. Click the Clear Private Data Now button.

Clearing History in Safari 2 or 3 Browser :
1. Click the Safari menu.
2. Select Preferences.
3. Click the Autofill tab.
4. Click the Edit button next to the ‘Other forms’ checkbox.
5. Select Google.com from the list.
6. Click Remove.
7. Click Done.

Its recommended to delete all this searched phrases from your browsers using these above listed options rather than using any 3rd party softwares.

Microsoft has added up a new feature in their new browser version internet explorer 8 where in the users can surf the web without recording data. The inPrivate mode will not record the users visited websites, history and will not allow the website’s to store cookies on the user’s PC. Many people have started calling this as ‘Porn Mode’ which helps people in viewing adult/NSFW websites during office hours or at home without being caught. As per microsoft there are many others uses of this inPrivate Browsing feature in Internet Explorer

Start InPrivate Browsing
Browse the web without saving your history.
Help prevent the websites you go to from automatically sharing details about your visit with other websites.

What is InPrivate Browsing?
InPrivate Browsing enables you to surf the web without leaving a trail in Internet Explorer. This helps prevent anyone else who might be using your computer from seeing where you visited and what you looked at on the web. You can start InPrivate Browsing from the New Tab page, or by pressing CTRL+ALT+P.

When you start InPrivate Browsing, Internet Explorer opens a new window. The protection that InPrivate Browsing provides is only in effect during the time that you use that window. You can open as many tabs as you want in that window, and they will all be protected by InPrivate Browsing. However, if you open another browser window, that window will not be protected by InPrivate Browsing. To end your InPrivate Browsing session, close the browser window.

While you are surfing using InPrivate Browsing, Internet Explorer stores some information—such as cookies and temporary Internet files—so that the webpages you visit will work correctly. However, at the end of your InPrivate Browsing session, this information is discarded. The following table describes which information InPrivate Browsing discards when you close the browser and how it is affected during your browsing session:

Information – How it is affected by InPrivate Browsing
Cookies Kept in memory so pages work correctly, but cleared when you close the browser.
Temporary Internet files Stored on disk so pages work correctly, but deleted when you close the browser.
Webpage history This information is not stored.
Form data and passwords This information is not stored.
Anti-phishing cache Temporary information is encrypted and stored so pages work correctly.
Address bar and search AutoComplete This information is not stored.
Automatic Crash Restore (ACR) ACR can restore when a tab crashes in a session, but if the whole window crashes, data is deleted and the window cannot be restored.
Document Object Model (DOM) storage The DOM storage is a kind of “super cookie” web developers can use to retain information. Like regular cookies, they are not kept after the window is closed.

Using a Secured Password :

Its general practice of using password like ‘Computer’, ‘12345′, ‘mypass’ etc and these can be easily hacked, try to use a real secure password which can be Alpha-Numeric and very hard to break into. Generally try to use password which are a mix of broken words rather than full names etc. Try to create your own password ideas based on your birth city or anniversay date like if your place of birth is new delhi, create a password like MPOBND[My Place of Birth New Delhi] something like this which anyone cannot ever get a idea about. May be a line from your favourite movie/song can also be used to create a secured tricky password. There are also many password generator tools to help you in creating secured passwords but the problem with these is that the created passwords are alpha-numeric and you need to write them down somewhere in order to remember them, but if you are building a password based on some of your favourite lines as i mentioned above you dont even need to store a copy of your password anywhere else and its almost impossible for anyone to break these passwords.

Clean your Browser’s Cache :

As i mentioned previously its very important to clean all your browsers stored information which could be cookies, your stored passwords , logins, personal information. If you are using IE check out the process to delete internet history and make sure you dont leave any important data on your laptops browser. Some websites try to gain these information directly from your browser though your installed antivirus software would generally check out these websites for virus/trojans/spywares along with the search engines which also generally give you a report about a website, but its always safe to remove any personal information on your computer’s browser.

Try to Avoid Instant Messengers :

Its generally recommended not to use instant messengers like Yahoo Messenger if you are not really chatting with someone on your list, because there have been many reports where users got access into others PC’s using Yahoo Messenger client and hence its not generally recommended using a IM Client and the web based messenger service would be far more better and secure. Another option is that these hackers try to send you some trojans/applications in the name of some important files and the moment you accept them, they get remote access into your PC, and this can lead into privacy problem along with important data loss.

Using Kensington Security Slot :

Most Latest laptop models are now equipped with a Kensington Security Slot which is a anti-theft system using which you can secure your laptop. its nothing but a small hole located in your laptops side section where in you can attach a lock & cable and make it impossible for someone to directly pick up your laptop and runaway. These locks are generally unlocked using keys or else PIN Devices. Apple Macbook has been a exception for this feature because all the laptop manufacturers started offering this security slot. The cable is generally very hard to cut but is possible using a wire cutter. You can find these kensington security slots in use in most malls and shopping places where the laptops & mobile phones are offered for display and demo purpose and these slots offers the store keepers the security from getting their products stolen and the wire cutters would also need a good amount of time to cut through these strong wires. In case of electronic locks the alarms are automatically ON the moment the device is removed from the slot. There have been some sucessful attempts to break open these highly secure locks using card board, check out the video here which clearly shows how a hacker uses just a small toilet paper’s card board and opens these strong locks.

Storing Important Files Securely Online :
If you have some word based document files which you need to update regularly its recommended to use highly secured services like google docs or email services like hotmail users can use Windows Live , yahoo’s yahoo breifcase services with 30Mb Storage Space etc. The advantage of using online backup tools is that you can always have a copy of your important data with secured data backup sites and not on a local computer which can get hacked at any moment. The Online Backup options not only offer security but also offers you to get access from any location when compared to your laptops which you cannot everywhere at times. The online services can be accessed using internet based mobile phones and you can update the files using multiple devices.

Password Protecting your Files & Folders :

You should always use password protection for your important files and folders. In case of word based documents you have a feature of adding password to your files after which no one can edit your document file without giving the right password. In case of securing your folders you should try to encrypt your data by Right Click the Desired Folder > Properties > Advanced > Encrypt contents to secure data > Apply > ok and this makes all your data in that folder secured. You can also use 3rd party applications like ‘Folder Lock’ to disable access to specific folders on your laptop’s hard disk drive and make sure only the admin can access it. You can use some of these softwares for the highest levels of data encryption : RoboForm, Advanced File Lock, AutoKrypt, Advanced Password Generator, My Secure Notepad & Crypturn.

Make sure you perform all the best security methods on time before you really lose your laptops and its not easy to recover a lost laptop or recovering the data which is stolen from your notebook. Its generally like the saying ‘A stitch in time saves nine’!

Deleting internet history in IE & google search history would not help you in deleting the po*n history you browsed last late night. You need something which is really advanced enough to remove all the traces of your browsing history. This is a very important topic because you need to make sure that your privacy is protected.

What are the suggested points?

Delete Browser Internet History

Delete Browser Cookies

Delete Browser Address Bar

Delete Windows Recent Documents

Delete Windows Temp Folder

Delete Browser Cache

Delete Po*n Traces

Delete Media Player History

Delete Windows Run and Search History

Delete Real Player History

Delete Dead Shortcuts

Delete Files Permanently

Delete Po*n Files

Delete Google Search History

Delete Yahoo Search History

Delete Po*n Images

The above listed 16 points would make you sure that you are completely safe and now there would be no chance someone can find about your po*n addiction and your po*n history[Children Control]. You can find many softwares which would help you out in getting these stuff automated like NetEraser which are available as free trail with lifetime support. Make sure you do a good research before installing these softwares and selecting the right product which can help you in deleting internet tracks.

Not only this helps you in hiding your browsing history but also makes sure your system is secured because most adult websites install trojans on your computer along with keyloggers which can make you lose important data.

My computer is running a bit slow for the last two weeks. I couldn’t understand the problem as I am not a technical person. One of my friends told me to delete the internet history to get back the speed, but I don’t have any idea about that process also. I tried by deleting selecting the URLs, but nothing happened. My friend also couldn’t tell me the process. Can you help me out in deleting the Internet history on my Internet Explorer?

Is the Process of Deleting Internet History easy?
You will not have to be technical person to be able to remove the Internet history on your Internet Explorer. You can even find it yourself, if you explore your IE Window for some time. The process that I will discuss will help you out in learning the process within a jiffy. So go through that process minutely and get rid of the stored URLS on your address bar.

How to Delete the History?
Go to Tools, and select Delete Browsing History.

A new window will appear. Click on the Delete History, option.

You will receive a message asking you whether you want to delete all your history, click yes and all your Internet History will be deleted.

This is a process where you will be able to delete all the stored history on your Internet Explorer together. But sometimes you need to delete the history for some different reason. You may also try to delete your Internet history to hide the websites you visit from your family members. If so, you can’t delete the entire history at it will make them understand that you are doing something wrong. I have also discussed the process of deleting selected URLs for you.

First start the Registry Editor (e.g. Regedit.exe). Before bringing changes to the registry, make it sure that it has a valid backup. Now write down the following key on the registry.

Now delete the URLs which you want to hide from your family members. Then close the registry editor. The one thing I forgot to mention is, close the Internet Explorer Window, before starting the above process.

The process is short and easy, but you need to learn it properly before starting doing it. Once you will learn the process, deleting the Internet History will no more be a problem for you. You can teach your friends also.
