Change Domain Restore Search Engine Rankings & Content

I have two websites which are on the same niche and have similar content, but only 1 of these is performing great in the Search Engines and the other website is almost dead with no visitors from the SE’s and iam planning to shut it down to make sure i don’t have to worry about it continuously. But what about the huge amount of content i have posted in it and what about the efforts i have made on it? Is there any value for this or would i have to forget about all this just because my SEO on this website didn’t work? I think Google has Penalized this website and it is still in sandbox and i don’t want to continue with it. What is the best suggestion for me?

This is a situation which comes for many website owners because not all websites started by webmasters would become Famous, Top Ranking ones and many of these would even go almost dead. Hence what i would recommend is to perform a 5 step procedure to make sure you can maximize the value of the dead website and make sure you lose almost nothing and make the most of what you already have.

Website 1 Status : Dead, Not Ranking in Google, Penalized / Sandbox Stage, Not Indexing Properly, Has got Backlinks and Good Content
Website 2 Status : Top Ranking in Search Engines, Instantly Indexed, Good Number of Links & Content

Step 1 – Backing up the Dead Website Pages & Information : If you are running a Blog then in wordpress you have a Export Feature where you can download all the Blog Posts which come along with the Categories, Comments and the Post Settings. Download the Exported File on your Computer. Next download all the Media Files ie Images, Videos, Documents etc which were previously hosted on this website and keep a backup of everything on your Computer. Once you have made sure everything is backup onto your Local computer now you are ready for the Next Step. If you are running a normal Static Website, you need to download everything through the ftp software and keep a copy with you.

Step 2 – Importing Content to Website 2 : Now this step would make sure that you restore your Website 1 Stuff into Website 2. Make sure that both of the websites have had similar content and you are having the same CMS because this can make your blog easy. This means that if your Website 1 is based on Wordpress and Website 2 is also on Wordpress then this can save your time and a lot of settings. Next again use the Import feature of your blog and import the previously Exported Backup File. In case of a Static Website, you need to make sure that the URL of the files ie in Html or PHP format are not the same in both the website, if not the previous pages would be replaced when you upload the file. Once the Restoration of Content & Images is completed you need to proceed to the next step.

Step 3 – Article URL Setup : Different Blogs have different Permalink Structures and if you are having different Permalink Structures then whenever you Import the Articles, the URL Structure can change. Here is a example -
website1.com/category/old_article/
website2.com/new-article.html
Now when you Import the articles, the URL would get changed and this can be retained using plugins like Advanced Permalinks. Once you are done with this step you need to proceed with the next one.

Step 4 – Redirecting Your Old Website 1 : In order to Redirect your Old Website you need to make sure that you Completely Redirect everything which is a Permanent System and is completed through the use of a .htaccess file which has to be created using a notepad file. Just open a Notepad or any Text Editor and enter the following Code with the location of the new website in it. Given is a sample code which can help you in understanding how to create the file and redirect your website to a new location maintaining the current rankings and transferring all the Links Juice to the Website 2.

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.yournewdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Replace “yournewdomain.com” with your actual new domain name. Then save the file as: .htaccess and upload it to the ‘public_html’ folder in your web hosting account of the Website 1. Once this is done you need to first verify that the Redirect is successful or not. Try to access your Website 1 and check if its instantly redirecting to the new website and opening its pages or not. If this is done then you have completed one of the most important Step in moving a website.

Step 5 – Finally you need to Recreate a new Sitemap and Submit it to Google and notify the Search Engine of the newly added content on your website and get it indexed as soon as possible.

That’s it, you have successfully moved your website to another domain and have retained the rankings of the same. Its recommended to move a dead site to a established domain instead of the Vice Versa. Other reason why people perform this is when they acquire a better domain name or else when they have to change the current domain name for Copyright or other Legal issues. How to Submit Website or Blog to Bing.com

Bing Search Engine is currently the buzz all over the web because it seems to be a real killer stuff launched by Microsoft offering everyone with a Search Engine which has many features which Google Offered. Now lets start getting indexed first in this search engine to get free visitors because we as webmasters should think about getting traffic from all the search engines rather than just using them. Most of the websites are already indexed by Bing.com may be because of msn databases they already have but you can still submit your websites into their index after which the bing robots would crawl your website and show your websites on the bing search results.

First of all you need to visit the webmaster tools section of Bing Search Engine where you will be asked to enter your Websites Address ie the URL followed with the Sitemap Address which is not compulsary but its recommended to enter the Sitemap URL because it can help the crawlers find all the pages easily. In order to get access to this page Bing.com would require you to enter your MSN Login details to continue the procedure, hence there is no need to enter your website address while submitting.

Once the submission is completed, Bing will ask you to authenticate yourself to make sure you are the real webmaster of the recently submitted website. You will either have to upload a XML Verification file to your root folder ie in the ‘Public_Html’ folder of your web hosting account or else add the tag they offer you to the section of your main index page. Once the process is completed you will find a link to all your sites list and to my surprise it had a listing of my previously submitted websites which i had submitted while created sitemap for MSN.com

Get Quick Indexed in Google Yahoo & MSN

This is the Foremost thing which many Bloggers and Webmasters think when they are starting a new website or a new blog, because before they add good content on their website they start thinking when will google indexed their website and send them traffic. Do you guys really think its that easy to get visitors from search engines without putting in any efforts? Well it may or may not be easy because it depends on lot of factors.

Before you start reading this article you need to know one thing, which is that – When you Register a new Domain Name and start a new website how can the different Search Engines know about it unless you notify them. In order to let the Search Engines find or discover your websites you need to do some small amount of work which does not cost you any money and you need to make sure you dont pay anyone on the web to get your website indexed in the search engines who use seo softwares.

First thing is to get your website completed with the basic content, say some pages of information with a sitemap and make sure there are no broken links or error pages. You can also submit your websites directly to the search engines though these are some better options available now listed below.

Another option to invite Robots to your website is by linking to it from some other website which is already Indexed and which gets regularly indexed. This way when you get a link from any other website, the robots which visit it, would then follow your new website link and reach your website and then index all your content and store as cache pages which you can check out using different options.

Example : I registered a new domain name for a plan iam having in my mind called as www.AmitBp.com – Registered on 2009-04-27 and no where linked from which is the reason when you do a search in google with the parameters – site:amitbp.com , you wont find any search engines which means that the new website is not indexed.

Now since i have linked to the new website from this article, all the robots which will be visiting this blog and this article will discover the new website and visit it and all the pages under it and index it. Thats it you have completed the job of getting your new website indexed without paying anyone. There are many other ways like pinging google , finding if your pages are cached and also use the wordpress ping list if you want to notify numerous search engines whenever your blogs are updated.

Note if you carefully read this article you would find that most discussions are inclined towards Google Search Engine because in my experience of 3 years in Search Engine Optimization i have recieved the most visitors from Google when compared to others.

Advanced HTML and XML Free Sitemaps Generator

How to Add/Submit your URL to Google

So finally you have got a new domain name and a hosting account which offers you quite good amount of hosting space and bandwidth and now you are looking for some visitors who would start reading your website. Generally people start thinking that they will have to submit their website to google after which google will send some visitors. If you feel thats the case its totally wrong because google would index your website’s content and then based on all your search engine optimization the rankings would change and you will get visitors.

You can submit your new domain name to google to make sure their spiders visit your website and get it indexed.

How to Create a Google Sitemap & Submit It

If you are a website owner you would obviously expect your website to gain visitors from search engines. Once you setup your robots.txt file you need to get started with setting up a sitemap of your complete website which can be submitted to google search engine and using this sitemap file the google bots can find all the pages of your website and index them.

In order to create a sitemap file which is compatible for google.com you need to use some generators like XML-Sitemaps.com which offer paid standalone versions and offers XML sitemaps for google, Text Sitemap for Yahoo, Html sitemap for human visitors.

Another option is using a free Sitemap Generation tool like Auditmypc which is a free online sitemap generation tool. It automatically starts scanning all the pages on your website and creates a sitemap file for them. Just enter your domain name and the directories you dont want to be scanner and click on the crawler to get started.

Once your sitemap is created you need to login to your webmaster tools account and click on the Sitemaps > Add Sitemap option and submit the link to your sitemaps file and it will be crawled within a few hours.
