With the events of September 11, tighter security measures are now being observed in airports from modifications on what you can bring in your carry-on luggage to the screening of all items. That includes your computer laptops.

Why Screen Laptops?
Sony Laptops Security Checkout AirportsComputer laptops are currently being screened and scanned in airports to ensure the safety of all passengers that would be traveling with you to your destination. This is done for a number of reasons. One of these reasons is that computer laptops, especially those that are equipped with the ability to connect to the Internet through Wi-Fi technology emit and receive various signals which could otherwise cause interference on the equipment used by pilots to maneuver the plane. This ability also means that terrorists are able to detonate bombs and other terrorist weaponry at the click of a button. Moreover, cunning terrorists and other enemies of the law are able to smuggle a number of contrabands by tucking these into the laptop bags or worse, within the nooks and crannies of the laptop itself.

Although the overall intentions of the government mean well, many business executives have been known to express their frustration and annoyance in having their computer laptops being screened by airport officials through the use of X-Ray machines. Here are some of the most common complaints.

Delays and Hold Ups
The tighter security checks have caused many flights to get delayed as a result to more and more security checks that people would need to pass through before they are finally allowed to board the plane. Should there be instances that the airport official find something suspicious on the monitor, the individual is then escorted on the side of the line and would have their laptop manually inspected by airport official. This could be extremely embarrassing on the part of business executives, especially if they are traveling with a client. In the end, the traveler has a higher potential of missing his or her flight in the process.

File Corruption
All carry-on pieces of luggage such as computer laptops are required to pass through a number of different screening devices that utilize X-Ray waves for airport officials to inspect the contents of a carry-on luggage. While airport officials do guarantee that these devices would be able to safely inspect computer laptops, there are still some instances when files may get corrupted as a result of these security check devices much to the dismay of business travelers.

One Carry-On Rule
After the events of September 11 and with more and more airline carriers now filling the plane to its capacity, travelers are now only allowed to bring only one carry-on luggage on the plane. This would mean that business travelers who are traveling light may be required to check in their luggage in order for them to bring their laptops in the plane. As such, instead of walking out the airport upon reaching their destination, many business travelers would now have to detour to the luggage carousel to retrieve their luggage. This would cause further delays on the part of the business traveler. And for one who has traveled to meet with a potential client, this definitely does not make a good impression.
