If you buy Kindle 3 (latest generation) wifi+ shipping and handling + Tax and import duty, it costs US $ 273.25 from India( today's ICICI conversation is Rs. 11990. I think it will be nearly same as wink will be after tax and shipping. May be more. If you compare kindle is much more than wink in many aspects. I would buy Kindle through Amazon.com. They will take care of shipping and duty fee etc, for you. Yes, you may have to pay little for currency conversion to your visa or mastercard credit card or to ATM, ask your bank.

Hello.
I am a student and wish to purchase Kindle to help me with my studies. I am required to refer to a large no. of technical book and most of these are available on net in pdf format. I feel that Kindle like ebook reader can help me although it is a costly. I would like to know how Kindle reads pdf books as this is the mail use for me and before making such a costly investment which I can bearly afford it will be great to have confirmation of users for my need. I can sent a few pages from my pdf books to any user who can help me confirm on how they are displayed on their Kindle machines. Can any Kindle users help me with my request? I am based in Mumbai and it will be best if I can personally interact with a user from the city.
Kindly help

I suggest you wait for a while and see how Nook takes its shape. Nook has far more features compared to Kindle. But, Nook is in its initial stage, so its performance is low. How ever, with the next software i believe that it would rock. And second thing that i'm waiting to see in Nook is the bigger screen version. Now it only has the 6" model. i want the 9." model. I believe it is worth waiting.

No i am not using any ebook reader. I was thinking of buying 1. So went to amazon site. Over there i can see that it could be shipped to India as well. There are 2 variants of the kindle and the one available to international customers is worth $259. This excludes the shipping and custom duty.
