As most of you Indian Broadband Internet users are familier with BSNL Broadband has introduced EVDO which is a Data Card based broadband connection for laptop users in India. This service is going to be introduced in around 700+ Cities in India with limited launch already done. Here are some details about this service.

What is EVDO :
This word stands for Evolution-Data or Evolution-Data Optimized is a internet service standard for wireless internet connections with speeds ranging upto 2.4Mbps.

BSNL EVDO Data CardCost of Data Card :
The Data Card if purchase would cost you 3500Rs one time charges and you wont need to make any monthly rentals towards the dard card. If you are not looking for making any initial payments you can buy this data card on rental basis which would cost you 200Rs/month.

Bsnl Evdo Data Card Tariff :
The Tariff of this service is around 550Rs/month for speeds upto 2.4Mbps in most cities in India. Though there are reports that the pricing differs based on cities and starts at 400Rs/month to 550Rs/month.

Plan 1 - 3500 Down Payment + 250Rs/monthly Rent
For Tariff of other cities we need to contact the local Bsnl authorities, and if you already have applied for EVDO do let us know with your available plans.

    Amit is this the full list of cities, because i don’t Mumbai, delhi or mumbai on the list, If this is the list I should say BSNL has got everything wrong by starting this service in smaller cities, where people or still just starting to know about the DATAONE services.This should have started the similar as they started DataOne with just a few subscribers and then slowly improving the capacity.

    Here we have home plan of broad band newly introduced from 2mbs/upto 8mbs .monthly charge rs 2000 per month. Download limit around 12.5 gb.
    I am from Kollam…Kerala………..I am using EVDO. The average is between 250kbs to 1mbs in City or town limit, but if we are outside city limit or rural areas say 20 or 30 km away the speed will be 20kbs upto 60kbs.. In some areas you may or may not be able to get connection..

    I am planing to by EVDO card from BSNL, just want to know whether its has roaming option as if now and also want to know whether can i buy the card from market and get connection done by BSNL, bcz in market it is available just for 2500 and with BSNL 3500, so u can find the difference, plz let me know at the earliest.

    To answer all your questions:
    I’m using the BSNL EVDO 1x data card and i’m satisfied with it. They theoritical speed limit is 2.4Mbps but the max i have got is close to 2 Mbps in the midnight when the data traffic is less.
    It is available in all Metro cities and major cities. Please check with BSNL to know if your city is supported (since they are adding city by city every now and then). Beyond the city limits the speed comes down to as low as 25kbps. During peak hours the average speed is 400kbps which is pretty good even for voice chatting. But video conferencing and watching live streaming videos would require more than 900Kbps download speed. I’ve tried all the wireless usb broadband data card. So far BSNL is the best in all Metros, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

    EVDO was speedy at first…now its not.I’ve heard they have limited the speed.i get download speed average 20Kbps.It was 40 to 70 Kbps before…im going to cancel my connection.I heard airtel broadband is much faster.

    1.) EC321 Huawei Supports EVDO feature??
    2.) Got from some discussion over the net i found that we may code ordinary card to EVDO. Is it possible??
    3.) I was using reliace DATA card (EC321 Huawei). Reliance has locked it. Have you any IDEA of unlocking it. So tha it can be used for any operator.
