Best Antivirus Program for Business & Home

September 25, 2007 by Amit Bhawani

Last week our office was effected with virus even though we have a firewall & good antivirus protection. Also just read from another webmaster that his paypal account was hacked 3 days back because of some key Internet Explorer Firefox Virusloggers installed on his PC without his knowledge. The virus at our office was not allowing my staff to run firefox application and giving a error to run with a dialogue box saying to run Internet explorer only. After contacting the antivirus support ie AVG i came to know that the virus came via the USB Pen drive we use at our office for moving heavy files from one PC to another since i dont allow CD ROM’s at my office. The antivirus was named as “W32/AHKHeap” – I dont hate mozilla but use IE or else

hey Amit, This is really a worst infection, it happened once on my PC with a usb pen drive my friend bought, this virus/Trojan can be removed only manually there is no other way out.
It is really fun dealing with such viruses on previous occasions I just went into safe mode and deleted this virus, but this guy i think knows all that this virus virtually disables almost all possible way of removing this virus.
but this can be easily removed by taking out its entries from registry.

This virus usually spreads from USB Pen drives/flash drives/mass storage devices.

    Here is the cure.

    1. Click Start -> Run.
    2. Type RegEdit in the Open text box, then press ENTER.
    3. In the Registry Editor, locate and click the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom

    1. Modify the value of the Autorun to 0 (zero) so that CD-ROMs and Audio CDs do not run and start automatically when inserted.
    2. Next navigate to the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

    1. Modify the value of the NoDriveTypeAutoRun entry to 0xb5 value to turn off the AutoRun feature for CD-ROMs by right-click NoDriveTypeAutoRun and then click Modify to type B5 in the Value data box. Select Hexadecimal, and then click OK.
    2. Quit Registry Editor.
    3. Restart your computer.

    and

    1. Go to Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del)
    2. in that click on Process Tab
    3. Delete only the svchost.exe of your user name
    4. type c:\heap41a in you address barof your explorer and you can trace this folder
    5. Now give a smile… you have done it….

CA AntiVirus is the worst! I used the free 1-year trial. I had no issues with it at all. When it came time to actually pay for the software, I did not see a reason to spend the $30. BAD CHOICE.

CA Anti Virus basically took over my machine…shutting down all my registry functions. On top of that they allowed pop up ads for one of their business partners spyware product to pop up all over the place. Unbelievable!

Conviently enough the spam started coming about the CA registry scan. Gee what good timing…it was almost as if this was planned. Stupid me forked over another $30 for the CA Registry Scan and clean up. ANOTHER BAD CHOICE.

To make this short, I had to retain the services of an IT pro to clean my machine up and get rid of all that CA s*** off for good.

As I have read these blogs spots I come to find out my case is not unique.

    BUYER BEWARE!

@ Brain – Thanks bad to hear about CA Antivirus because i thought that etrust services were very professional and didnt expect them to rollback everything when the software was uninstalled.

    Solution from Search-and-destroy.
If you own a computer, you must have antispyware to keep it running at its best. The problem is choosing a scan that works. I have tried many different types of scans in the past and then I ran across Search-and-destroy Antispyware. I have to say that the antispyware solution from Search-and-destroy is the best that I have used to date. It gets the job done and keeps my computer working like new. If you are interested in seeing for yourself just how good this antispyware works you can click on Search-and-destroy, to learn more. I’m sure it would be worth your time to check it out.
