Canon PowerShot S5 IS Camera Review
Canon PowerShot S5 IS features an eight megapixel 1/2.5″ (5.8 x 4.3 mm) CCD sensor and a twelve times Image Stabilized zoom lens. However though this lens, offers long reach with its maximum 432 mm equiv yet does not improve at the wide end with the same 36 mm equiv. Nonetheless the model shows several improvement which includes Face Detection (for AF, AE and Flash in shooting mode and red-eye removal in playback), a 2.5″ LCD monitor (up on the S3 IS) and a flash hot-shoe. The sad issue is that even in this model there is no RAW support though.
Canon PowerShot S5 IS is characterized by the 12x optical zoom, 8.0 Megapixel PowerShot S5 IS. This model also has optical Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, professional-grade optics and extensive movie functions. Apart from that at the same time it introduces a range of new features that are designed to increase the photographer’s success rate. These include range of technologies like for example powered by DIGIC III image processor, the camera has a Face Detection Technology which improves focus, exposure and flash output for people shots . Also the new Red-Eye Correction feature effectively solves red-eye problems in captured photos.
The camera is also improved as it has a sensitivity range of ISO 80-1600 that complements the optical IS system for extended low light performance. Some of the other special features include a larger, higher resolution 2.5” vari-angle LCD, additional shooting modes and extended video recording. Canon PowerShot S5 has a compact design that incorporates a new hot shoe which provides compatibility with selected Canon Ex Speedlite external flashes. It also has an accessory list that includes Wide, Tele and Close-up converter lenses. Some of the key characteristic features of the camera include Ultrasonic Motor (USM) and UD lens as well as Optical Image Stabilizer coupled with 8.0 Megapixel CCD. The camera also has an advanced Noise Reduction technology and Face Detection for stills and movies. With long-play VGA movies that has stereo sound and Photo in Movie as well as 22 shooting modes including full manual control and 0cm Super Macro this camera is surely best among its peers.
