Gii Gets on Del.icio.us Homepage

Gii got into the homepage of Del.icio.us and i forgot to announce it , Followed is the screenshot for this. I was quite shocked to see the huge traffic i recieved with in 30mins of its homepage listing. As per the stats Global Internet Index recieved a total of 610 uniques in the 30 minutes listing on homepage and a extra 36 bookmarks from the visitors.

A new newspaper agency is going to be launched soon which is going to be given a name of The Hyderabad Mirror which includes a offline newspaper , news magazine and online website where the quickest news will be posted and they cliam they wont have any Fake news as per the caption announced while advertising their new brand.Lets see how much truth this new newspaper paper agency would publish.

Propeller – The New Netscape

Netscape – One of the best social bookmarking websites was totally moved to a new domain name called “Propeller.com” , and all the user accounts, stories , information, moderators and the whole voting setup was moved to the new domain, which says that the heavy traffic old website is now just netscape.AOL.com and not a digg kind of website.
The new Netscape.aol.com which is redirected from netscape.com has a 100% similar design like yahoo.com homepage and the same effects of colour changing and ajax effects of logging in etc. Iam very much confused about these heavy changes in the websites where in everyone had bookmarked tonnes of old netscape pages because of the great resource and now everything of these links are just broken and the old system has been moved to propeller.com, though lets see how long this new domain attracts the old rankings and visitors.

Best Open Source Social Networking CMS Award

Packtpub yesterday announced the final results of the best open source CMS and as expected wordpress, has won this award.

Packt is pleased to reveal that WordPress is the first winner of the 2007 Open Source CMS Award, picking up the best Open Source Social Networking Content Management System. In a very close category, WordPress came out in front of Elgg and Drupal, who finished joint second.In what is one of the new categories for 2007, the Open Source Social Networking CMS Award was designed to recognise Content Management Systems that promoted the collaboration and distribution of information and development of communities. The Judges commented on WordPress’s ease of configuration, professional approach, usability and enthusiastic community. Along with the title, WordPress will receive $2,000 in prize money from Packt.

Though the prize money is not important for the wordpress team but the award adds up another testimonial to them and their script. The top top three choices, Elgg and Drupal ended up on the same number of votes. Judges praised Elgg as a true Open Source Social Networking CMS, its variety of themes and overall user experience. Drupal had a long list of positive comments from the judges and was praised as a good overall package.

I would like to congratulate the whole wordpress team for winning this award.

AOL purchases quigo for $300 Million

Quigo technologies which offers content targetted ad serving and search engine marketing solutions has been acquired by AOL for a amount of $300 million. The service named as adsonar which runs on publishers websites the same way as adsense words and feedpoint being the search engine tool.
The estimations are that AOL would recover one third[$100 million] of their investment within 3 years of this deal.

Quigo is a New York/Israel-based ad targeting provider and they have signed up a multi-year contract with thestreet.com for the development of a custom version of adsonar for their finance website. Currently Time Warner (AOL) Networks is at 4.5 market share according to comScore’s report which includes direct search and partner search and this step is taken by Aol to increase their market share by launching new products.

Exchanging Stumbles Leads to StumbleUpon Ban

One of the Top 5 Social bookmarking website – Stumble Upon a website which offers you to Connect, Meet and Share, has now started banning all the websites which are trading in exchanging votes/ stumbles etc. I just found that they have banned http://suexchange.com/ from stumble upon now because they mainly deal in stumble exchanges only.

As per the TOS of Stumble Upon :

Are incentive programs allowed? Someone asked me to rate their web-site?
StumbleUpon does not allow personal accounts to be used for the purposes of incentivization or promoting sites. This would be considered a breach of our Terms.

The practice of sending PM’s encouraging or inviting other stumblers to rate/review sites in exchange for reciprocal reviews/ratings, monetary, or any other form of reward is strictly forbidden.

The practice of actively soliciting a rating or review for a site is also forbidden. Should you receive a PM, or encounter forum postings that breach this rule, you are encouraged to report this via feedback.

Accounts participating in such practices will be deleted and banned, and the related sites deleted and banned from the system.

Suexchange used to offer points for stumbling others websites and in return you get back stumbles, though i dont understand what is the use of stumble upon because one of my fun[humor] related website gets around 4000 uniques/day from stumble upon but not even 0.01% stay more than a couple seconds on my website and just move on, which just leads to waste of bandwidth for my website and lots of useless impressions.

Why i Hate MyBlogLog and why i removed it

Mybloglog which helps you to connect With Fellow Readers and owned by yahoo was running on this blog till couple hours back but now i have finally decided to remove it and the reason behind that is , mybloglog takes around 13-16 outbound links/widget which are originally useless for my blog because there is no point in giving these many number of outbound links.

Using this widget i had no control over the friends who added up to my community, how long friends stayed on my website, if i was allowed to remove any friends. This widget just got extra publicity because every blogger copies others and uses this widget on their blog and gives away more backlinks to mybloglog for nothing.

In addition to this their user control panel does not offer anything else other than just some inbound vitors referrar’s , what visitors clicked which are completely unreliable when i cross checked them, because they were not showing even 50% of the real traffic stats , because i feel in 99% cases awstats is more efficient and shows perfect data. The javascripts add up more bad value to the website and non-seo friendly code add another negative point.

After all these drawbacks and no real advantages i have finally removed the mybloglog service from my blog. Let me know how is your experiance with this system.
