The release is set at year 2010 with 3 years of development and launch of 32-bit & 64-bit models.

If you are a full time computer users then at times you would be interested in knowing your Pc’s uptime ie the time it has been running continiously before you did you a full restart. For this you need to check out your Tast Manager which can be opened by the following way.

Right Click anywhere in your taskbar and click on TaskManager Option :

Another option to get Task Manager is clicking ‘Ctrl+Alt+Del’ combination keys and going over to the windows vista user login page, where you need to click on the ‘Task Manager’ option.

In the Task Manager you can move over to the Performance Tab to check out the Up Time of your computer. This is a very beautiful interface which offers you many other CPU info ranging from CPU Usage History to the physical memory available and used.

In this under the ‘System’ column you can find the ‘Up Time’, i have attached a screenshot of the same below with the required information marked up.

If you are a windows xp/vista user and if you are looking to save up some of your time by making quick shortcuts then here is a quick tutorial for the same. My Computer is one of the most used option by PC users and you would need a shortcut to the same from the places which you regularly visit like the “Desktop” or “Task Bar”.

To Show “My Computer” on Desktop here is the Process :
Go to the Start Option > Computer > Right Click on this and Select “Show on Desktop”

To show “My Computer” on Taskbar, you can directly drag the icon from your Start option and Drop into the Taskbar where it automatically creates a small shortcut.

Its originally a very simply trick but you need to follow it carefully and make sure you perform the above steps only or else you may create some problems in your windows.

Normally a PC would take around a minute’s time for complete shutdown and almost the same time for restarting. There are several ways which can help you in boosting this process because its sometimes very important to increase the bootup speed, when you are in urgency.

Deleting Useless Stuff :
Go to your ‘My Computer’ section and right click on the drive in which your operating system is installed and go to Properties. You will find a small option called as ‘Disk Cleanup’ , which when clicked will give you a option to coose the files you want to clean up.

1. My Files Only
2. Files from all users of this computer.
Once you continue you will find a ‘Disk Clean Up Options’ page which allows you to selects the files you want to delete from your drive ie Temporary Internet Files, Downloaded Program Files, Recycle Bin, Setup Log Files, Temporary Files etc

Using CCleaner :
Over all the Disk Cleaning & System Maintenance Software Applications i love CCleaner because of its simplicity and features which makes sure you totally clean up your PC and make sure its runs super fast. It not only deletes the temporary files in the different browsers, but also cleans up the temporary files created by different applications like Photoshop, Acrobat Reader, Google Earth, Winzip etc which cannot be easily found and deleted.

Using MsConfig :
Go to Start>Run> Type – ‘Msconfig’
You will be shown the System Configuration option page. Here you need to click on the ‘Startup’ menu to find our all the programs which are loaded once your computer has booted and started. You can uncheck all the applications which you feel are unwanted and you dont need them to be started at boot up time example – Instant Messengers, Movie/Audio players etc. This can save up huge amount of PC starting time and you can run any of these blocked applications later from your ‘All Programs’ option.

Are you using the new Windows 7 on beta on your computer? Then its time you should get some product keys which can make your application a legal version. You can download windows 7 directly and use it on your PC.

Here is the way to get windows 7 product keys :

The following steps worked for me:

1. Login in you Passport account, for example, here.
2. Without closing the Passport page, open one of the following in a new tab:
Windows 7 Beta 32-bit
Windows 7 Beta 64-bit

The 32-bit link may need to be refreshed many times, about 15 for me until it worked.

Are you a windows 7 user, then dont forget to let us know about your experiance using this operating system and why you like/dislike it when compared to windows XP/Vista OS.

If you are looking to download Windows 7 Beta right now its possible directly from the official Microsoft website because its available to the first 2.5 million users who want to download it.

Here are the 2 websites from which you can download the ISO Images which you can later burn and then install after getting them activated using the product keys.

The normal installation would work out for 90 days and to extend this time frame you need to activate, after which the windows 7 licence would work out till August 2009, pretty good to get your hands on the OS. Even if the download links dont work out in the initial keep refreshing the website and finally you can get it working, because the downloads are currently done heavily.

Download Links :
Windows 7 Beta (32-bit)
Windows 7 Beta (64-bit)

Whenever you boot your PC there is a image which loads up stored in hidden system file called as ‘ntoskrnl.exe’ which displays animation along with the boot image. In order to change these files you need to replace this bitmap file but this is seriously not recommended because sometimes this can create big problems and also stop your operating system.

If you use a different ‘ntoskrnl.exe’ file for replacing the boot image then its risky because once you reboot your PC you can get a message of “C:\Windows\System32\ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt.” Missing or
corrupt? which means you just lost something you didnt expect and now you are in a big problem, better try to restore this file or else just ignore these kind of steps some website recommend you.

The above error messages comes in because the person who shared you the file may be using windows xp of different version with different settings and configuaration and your operating system installation would be different. Hence dont go for this kind of file replacement for setting up the boot screen image.

Next the question would be what is the best way to change the boot screen which is the safest for your PC?

The answer for this is that you can use any of the available freeware or paid applications available online whcih can help you in changing your boot screen. The first free solution would be Boot Skin which is a program which helps you in changing boot screens of less than 20kb size for quick loading and also does not require you to replace any of your windows kernal files.

Once you download the software and run it, you will be shown with different bootskin’s out of which you can select one and click on ‘Apply this BootSkin’ to activate it. You can even download different skins from their website and start using them. Rebooting your computer once can show you the new boot screen, continiously whenever you reboot.

If you are looking for more skins then you can check out these websites :
1. SkinBase
2. WinCustomize.com

This bootskin software also shows you the already installed skins in your PC and if you want to change any of these you can do it with a click without installing or replacing any files, something like you are changing your wallpapers. Just download the skin you like from the above mentioned websites and run them once, followed by the BootSkin application to detect your files and list in the software. Along with this the skins are very small in size allowing you to load your pc quicker.

If you have downloaded these skin files from different websites then you need to rename them from .Zip format to .bookskin file formats to get it in working. Once the format is correct you can double-click on the file and import it.

There are several people who are always confused on what is PC Hibernate feature and what does it lead to when clicked. While you are using Windows Operating system, when you click on the Start > Turn Off Computer option you will find the Hibernate feature, which when clicked will hibernate it.

Whenever you run any program like Winamp, MS Word, Notepad, Firefox etc, its files are stored in the RAM[Random Access Memory] till the program is running actively and not totally closed. While you shutdown the PC, all the applications running on your computer are totally shut down, but in case of Hibernation all this data is moved from the memory to your hard drive and stored there, which is restored back when your PC is restarted and its out of the hibernate mode.

The Hibernate mode is very good feature for windows users because it saves up a lot of time when you start your PC again. It saves up all the currently open applications and hence you dont have to manually save all the programs, when you are looking for a very small break from your work. There are also other reasons/advantages of using the hibernate mode which include the time saving on boot up along with power/battery save up because you dont have to close all the programs nor reopen then you restart the computer.

Nomally most computers are enabled with the hibernate feature, but sometimes they need to be manually setup in order to activate it. In order to setup Hibernate feature in your computer you need to open the ‘Power Options’ under the control panel. The Power Options offers you to reduce power consumption of the entire PC and allows you to create/use different power schemes by changing the display brightness, turning off hard disk & monitor etc.

Under the Power Options Properties, you will find a Tab named as ‘Hibernate’ which you need to click and , Check on ‘Enable Hibernation’ option which would require good amount of disk space on your hard disk drive since all the data is stored in your HDD from your RAM.

This enables the hibernate option in your PC, but if you want to enable hibernate mode based on some conditions then you need to click on the ‘Power Schemes’ Tab and click on the System Hibernates : After x minutes/ Never. This helps you when you are running on batteries and you want to hibernate your PC automatically when it reaches low battery levels say something like 10%, when all the data and running programs will be automatically saved to the disk instead of closing them when the PC is shut down.

Hibernate is a great feature in windows when you want to save your work and go for a break. Make sure you enable the hibernate feature along with automatic hibernation mode when its running on batteries.
