FaceBook places is the latest feature which is going to allow you to share your current location with your friends. The service is useful when you want your close friends and family to keep a track on you and know that you are at a safe location, but with the FaceBook service becoming more useful towards business everyone is having more connections and fans rather than real known friends. Hence, sharing the current location with them is not quite a good idea which is the reason we are going to tell you how you can disable this feature in your FaceBook account.
Once the Facebook user updates his their location in real time its shared with their fellow Facebookers who can know the current location, but this can be misused too. Hence its suggested to disable this feature completely and use services like Foursquare and Gowalla where you can still perform Fake check-in’s.
First you will have to FaceBook Login and then click on the Account > Privacy Settings and proceed with the ‘Custom options‘. Here in you will have to click on the ‘Customize settings‘ option.
Under the Choose Your Privacy Settings > Customize settings, you will find different sections under which you will have to move under the ‘Things I share‘ section. Customize who can see and comment on things you share, things on your Wall and things you’re tagged in.
Move towards the ‘Places I check in to‘ which by default is set to ‘Friends Only’ allowing your friends to view the places you check in. Next click on the Drop-Down box and select the ‘Customize‘ option.
You will be shown with a small box on ‘Custom Privacy‘ where you will have to click on ‘Make this visible to > Only me‘.
Next you will also have to Uncheck the option of – Include me in “People Here Now” after I check in Visible to friends and people checked in nearby(See an example below) to ensure that your location is not shown to anyone.
