ADVERTISEMENTS

A technology devised to let users update their IP address of a domain in real time is known as Dynamic DNS. Anyone wishing to understand the workings of dynamic DNS must first understand how domain names and name servers work.

The name servers are computer servers that hold all the website domain names. The computer uses these servers with the help of a Domain Name System server in order to change the domain name in a manner that makes it easy for the computer system to recognize it. This changed name is known as the Internet Protocol Address.

The workings of dynamic DNS are quite similar to the phenomenon mentioned above. The only difference being that dynamic DNS if far more flexible. By using dynamic DNS which have dynamic systems associated with them you can access domain names from all servers that have dynamic or varying IP addresses. This makes it possible for people as well as other websites to connect to any particular server without the need to track the server’s IP address in particular.

Implementing dynamic DNS
Any computer with minimum setup requirements can be used by a server operator to implement dynamic DNS. In order to this the first thing you need to do is change the maximum caching time. You can also achieve this by changing the time intervals between the cashing of a domain to an extremely small period.

For dynamic IP addresses you should not set this time to more than a minute or two. In this way you will be able to prevent the storing of the original IP address. Consequently the visitors will be allowed to visit a particular site to update the old information that they have by simply contacting the name server each time they visit.

Dynamic DNS has gained commercial viability in a variety of markets. The home server marketplace is no exception in this case. It has been observed that the rapid technological advancements have improved the internet speeds which have expanded the home serve market extensively. You will find many small websites to be hosted on nothing but a home computer with a dynamic IP address. This has made it necessary to allow Dynamic DNS connections for such amateur server setups.
