How to Fix Slow Boot Computer – Bios Registry Tweaks

June 16, 2008 by Amit Bhawani

My computer is not very old, yet it takes a pretty long time for boot up. I am not a technical person, so I can not find out any solution to this problem myself. My friends know a thing or two about the computer systems, but they also can’t help me. They say that this is a quite complicated process, and related to the internal system of the computer. Can you help me out to get rid of this problem? Another thing I want to mention here is that some also told me that using a registry cleaner may act as a solution to the slow but ups.

Does a Registry Cleaner Work?
This will work when your computer boot slowly due to errors in the registry. You can also search the errors individually instead of using the registry cleaner. The registry is the biggest filing system of your computer. In time of starting up, the computer should search all the registry files. If any error is found, it may verify and try to repair those problems during the startup. This repair work makes the booting process slow.

What Are the Causes Behind the Slow Boot Ups? Also Try to Mention the Solutions to them.
The slow boot ups may also have no links with the window. Sometimes they are caused by the BIOS, which is the input/output device of your computer. In such cases, you will have to first hold the delete key as soon as you turn on your PC. This will take you to the Bios Window. There you will have to locate the Boot Menu. Select the Quick Boot option and turn the memory test off.

Boot Setting Configuration

Make it sure that your hard drive appears first in Boot Order. Exit all the logo displays and then restart your system.

You may also disable all the onboard graphics and sounds to make the boot process fast. To do this, select the Onboard Device option. Disable the onboard devices and then turn the unused adaptors off. Restart your computer. I hope you will now get a much faster boot up.

As you are not related to computers, in case of other reasons behind the slow boot up like boot up passwords, the Resource Hoggs you must consult an expert. They will help you out in eliminating the passwords and killing the Resource Hoggs. Good luck.

In my opinion the positive effect of registry cleaning software is overestimated. Often PC users
consider this or that problem caused by registry errors, why in reality the roots lie in
malicious programs (spyware, etc) lingering in the system. In such cases cleaning up the Windows
registry with enough probability will not help as much as expected. For novice users this may be
a reason to complain about installed registry cleaner under a wrong presumption that it didn’t
help. Registry errors sure may add up to system problems, but they rarely can be blamed alone.

I have come across few programs online, which promise to take out all the viruses and bugs from your computers

but never download them.. i was fool to do it.. and was regretting it later..

Look for some trust worthy programs and then only download them

Another thing you can do is to disable unnecessary programs from staring up when Windows loads in. One way to do this is to go to the program that starts up automatically, and if it’s something you don’t want or need starting up automatically each time, usually there’s an option within the program’s setting to either allow it to load in automatically on each boot or not to.

But some programs you don’t want loading in automatically each time doesn’t always have this type of option. So in that case, you can go to the start-up manager and un-check them from loading in each time. In Windows XP you would do this by clicking Start (it’s pretty much the same way for Vista as well), then select Run. From the run prompt, enter in “msconfig” (without the quotes). From the box that pops up, click on the “Startup” tab. Now go through the list to see what’s starting up automatically. The programs with a check in the box next to it are programs starting up automatically. Un-Check the programs you don’t want starting up each time, then “Ok” when you’re done. You will need to re-start your computer for the new changes to take effect.

When the computer reboots and Windows fully loads in, you may get a message like “You have choosen selective startup”. Put a check in the box so you won’t see this message every time, then OK.

Now your computer should boot more quickly, and with less programs loading in, you’ll use less RAM on the system, and overall performance may be improved.

now if your computer is slowing down because of the start up issues causing this just click on start, then on run type in msconfig and a system utility menu box will appear click on start up tab and turn on or off programmes on start up. I hope this helps some of you people out there good putering.
