Another thing you can do is to disable unnecessary programs from staring up when Windows loads in. One way to do this is to go to the program that starts up automatically, and if it's something you don't want or need starting up automatically each time, usually there's an option within the program's setting to either allow it to load in automatically on each boot or not to.

But some programs you don't want loading in automatically each time doesn't always have this type of option. So in that case, you can go to the start-up manager and un-check them from loading in each time. In Windows XP you would do this by clicking Start (it's pretty much the same way for Vista as well), then select Run. From the run prompt, enter in "msconfig" (without the quotes). From the box that pops up, click on the "Startup" tab. Now go through the list to see what's starting up automatically. The programs with a check in the box next to it are programs starting up automatically. Un-Check the programs you don't want starting up each time, then "Ok" when you're done. You will need to re-start your computer for the new changes to take effect.

When the computer reboots and Windows fully loads in, you may get a message like "You have choosen selective startup". Put a check in the box so you won't see this message every time, then OK.

Now your computer should boot more quickly, and with less programs loading in, you'll use less RAM on the system, and overall performance may be improved.

I have come across few programs online, which promise to take out all the viruses and bugs from your computers

but never download them.. i was fool to do it.. and was regretting it later..

Look for some trust worthy programs and then only download them

In my opinion the positive effect of registry cleaning software is overestimated. Often PC users
consider this or that problem caused by registry errors, why in reality the roots lie in
malicious programs (spyware, etc) lingering in the system. In such cases cleaning up the Windows
registry with enough probability will not help as much as expected. For novice users this may be
a reason to complain about installed registry cleaner under a wrong presumption that it didn't
help. Registry errors sure may add up to system problems, but they rarely can be blamed alone.
