For every parent the most important thing in their life would be their kids and their security. With the increasing amount of cyber knowledge and information on how to use the computers and access the internet websites kids at the age from 8 years have a basic idea on how to access the internet and search on major search engines like Google, Yahoo etc.
In most cases the children would search for Online Games, greeting cards, their favorite celebrity photos, car wallpapers etc but most of these free stuff offering websites are risky because they could not only send malware, virus but would also display pop-up ads. Most of the pop-up advertisements are related to entertainment websites or adult content which are harmful for the kids because that’s not the age to view the content.
For Apple Mac users we had previously written a few articles to Setup Parental Controls in Mac OS X and Secure Browser for Kids. Another option is Blocking websites from Children Access. In this article we will recommend you a browser toolbar security software which will make sure that your kids wont be able to access inappropriate websites and instantly disable the access.
You can download the software from this website which would initially ask you to Choose a Parental Control Password which is given to you as a parent following whihc you can set the childs access to the Internet. Once you the entered these logins, the software would be installed in the form of a toolbar on the browsers which are available on your computer like Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer etc.
Access the browser on your computer and you will find the toolbar installed on the top. By default its in the ‘Parents Mode’ following which you can configure it. You need to click on the ‘You are in Parent-Mode’ button to get into the Child Mode which is activated right away with a confirmation box as shown below. Following this the computer would block websites based on the parental settings.
Once the computer is set to the Child Mode the browser would block any website which is having adult content. If the child still tries to access the website by directly entering the URL in the address bar or by clicking on the search engine results the following message box would be displayed. It would clearly mention the reason for not giving access to the site. If the website is blocked by mistake, parents can login to the account and ‘Add site to Child-safe list’.
To find out all the websites which were already visited by your child you need to click on the ‘KidTracker’ button which gives a log of all the sites along with the URL, Data and the final result of the access. The tracking data is useful to the parents because reading the same they can know the kind of websites their children access and even they could recommend their child to not visit the bad and inappropriate content websites.
In case you find a website which is having adult content and is still available for access, click on the ‘Block This Site’ button and it would be accessible only in the Parent-Mode. Switching between both the modes is also very easy and the overall toolbar is very easy to install, run and handle.
