Google Friend Connect is a new service from google which allows you to grow your social network by allowing your visitors to connect to your blogs and increase your network. You dont need any programming knowledge to get started but just need 2 simple steps to activate this service.

Visit the homepage of Friend Connect, click on ‘Set up a new site‘ link to get started.

You need to first add your site name and the blog’s URL which is the base domain name example :
Site Name : Amit Bhawani
Home URL: http://www.amitbhawani.com
Next you will be asked to download 2 files to your computer and then upload to your blog’s root folder ie under ‘public_html’
Files : rpc_replay.html & canvas.html
Once you upload the files to your root folder you need to click on ‘Test & Finalize Setup’ to complete the whole process. This is a very simple setup process for Friend Connect.
Next you can login to the Friend Connect page through the email you signed up and click on the ‘Members Gadgets’ option to get access to different gadgets which you can add on your blog. In this option you can also assign the size of the gadget and make changes to the colours of the gadget, then click on Generate code for getting a code which you can directly use within your blog posts or your sidebar for your visitors to become members of your blog/website and stay connected.

I am the second person to join your site via Google Friend connect .I hope more will join Google Friend Connect buzz spreads over the web.

Hi there, your article really helped me to install GFC on my site. I have recently moved from blogger to wordpress, on blogger task was as easy as making a click but here I have to search around, how to proceed. I was really struck at step when i have to upload those to files to ftp, I was not able to understand in which directory I have to upload these two files, so that result is as as per requirement… (I might sound silly), now good thing is I was able locate and activated GFC on my site. Thanks
