Computers have become integral part of the children education in all aspects possible but looking at the case in India, still there are more than 100 million Indian children who attends rural schools which doesn’t have proper facilities like computer education, electricity. Keeping an eye on this, iSlate is launched which is the cheapest possible tablet priced at $20 or so. It conducted a trial in rural areas and looks like to be a hit with the kids. This could even beat the $35 android based tablet PC which will be introduced by Indian government 7 its planned to be launched in January first week of 2011. Rumors are there that Indian made Android device might be a Chinese device?

iSlate is a solar powered tablet PC with the capability of direct touch interface. iSlate is purely education based device which uses the courseware on board and the courseware are developed using Python. You can install & run Java based programs & software’s on iSlate. The capability that its purely a solar based device will make it more successful for the children in rural areas as many small town and villages in India don’t have properly supply of electricity or they completely lacks it and so is the case with mobiles phone companies been switching to special made Solar based mobiles phones like Samsung Guru Solar chargeable mobile phone and Vodafone VF 247 Solar Powered Mobile Phone.

This tablet doesn’t run on Android or Windows, moreover it doesn’t have a operating system. It runs on a variant of Linux.

The touchscreen tablet makers like Apple and Samsung are creating the market of Tablet PC priced at higher prices with top class features and makers like Palem and Negropante are on to make the market of Tablet PC at lowest possible price and moreover there are a hundreds of devices in the middle of the two extremes. The tablet PC’s price ranges from $20 to $600 and all having its own specifications & features.

Looks like iSlate Tablet would be just strictly academic not just for the retail consumption and it would be priced Rs 1000 or near to that.
