TATA Indicom MNP Offer – How to Switch to TATA Indicom under Mobile Number Portability

TATA Indicom MNP LogoNow, you can switch from your current CDMA or GSM Operator to the least congested TATA Indicom CDMA Operator, which is repeatedly being awarded for its least congested network.  Please note that if you are thinking of switching to the TATA Indicom from your current CDMA operator then make sure that you have Open Market Handset (OMH) with which you can insert any UIM Card in the CDMA phone as generally all CDMA handsets are locked which means these are operator locked.

And if you are planning to switch from the current GSM Operator then you will have to get a new CDMA Open Market handset (OMH) and then port your current GSM number to TATA Indicom’s CDMA. It is not clear that whether the porting charges of Rs. 19 is charged by TATA Indicom unlike free porting provided by BSNL or not but as per the information we have got is that the porting fees is currently being charged.

Procedure to shift your existing number to TATA Indicom:

  • First you need to send sms from your current CDMA/GSM connection as Port <Mobile Number> like Port 9820098200 to 1900.
  • After sending the sms to 1900, you will receive back a Unique Porting Code (UPC) as a reply through which you can initiate the process of porting your number.
  • Now, on generation of the UPC, you will have to fill and submit in the CAF and Porting Form along with the mandatory documents as prescribed by DOT at the nearest TATA Indicom outlet and that’s it within 7 days your number will be ported successfully.

You will also be notified about the porting via sms. So as soon as you receive sms regarding the same, you can insert the UIM card of TATA Indicom into the CDMA OMH handset. Please note that you can only shift your existing number to TATA Indicom if you are from Haryana telecom circle since Mobile Number Portability is currently launched only in Haryana and soon will be extended to other parts of country by/from January, 20, 2011. Apart from TATA Indicom, TATA Docomo, Idea Cellular, airtel, Videocon and BSNL have also launched their MNP tariff and procedures to shift.

yes, its possible to shift from CDMA to GSM, but make sure that you have served > 90 days with your present operator and also most importantly ensure that you have a GSM handset to accommodate the new GSM sim which will be given to you by your recipient operator.

i have given porting request from idea to tata indicom on 22/1/2011.

they have charged from me 500/- for security , 50 for blank sim, printed price on the sim cover is 49/-, 19/- for mnp charges.

it is post paid connection, on 1/2/2011, i get message from port that my porting has been cancelled becoz of outstanding amount.

now my billing plan starts by 1/2/2011. uptil 31/1/2011 i had no outstanding amount.

tata i had given me assurance that they will port my no. till 29/1/2011.

now they are not taking my calls and not refunding me my money.

you can’t do much in this case as the blame game will be the only outcome of this.

I recommend you and every one out here that its better to first convert your postpaid connection to prepaid by clearing all the dues and then shift to another operator under MNP, as in Prepaid there are not much reasons for the un successful porting
