Indian Railways offers a variety of services for the passenger provided you know of these services and policies. Here is one exclusive case wherein which you get a refund. Take the look at the situation.
Situation:
For example, if you have booked a ticket of five passenger and one of them wants to cancel his ticket for some reason or he couldn’t make up and train leaves the boarding station, then what would you do? Would you cancel all passengers tickets and book the other four passenger tickets? If so you are not sure that the ticket would be conformed. Would you continue your journey forgetting the money they have paid for the passenger not traveling with them? Have you every asked for the refund under such circumstances?
Possible Solution
There is a possibility of getting the money back in such situations for the passenger who is not traveling with you. There is valid and recognized by Indian Railways under extreme rules which says you get 50 percent of refund of the total fare in such cases. You shouldn’t be worried because this procedure is easy. For this you need to approach the concerned (TTE) Traveler’s Ticket Examiner. He is provided with Refund Certificate, so ask him to provide one. In such situation he would surely offer you Refund Certificate giving the details of the passenger who is not traveling with his seal and signature. This certificate with the ticket you have is to be presented to the booking clerk at booking counter in your destination stop. The booking clerk then calculates the amount to be refunded and he is granted the same when the customer surrenders the ticket with Refund Certificate.
Tatkal tickets which are confirmed are not eligible for refund under such cases. For the tickets booked through IRCTC website, the refund would be provided by IRCTC but not at the reservation counter.
