Tips for Underwater Digital Photography
Digital photography is used in every media profession. Journalism, religious marketing, political propaganda and wildlife photography have all become digitalised with the arrival of digital photography techniques. Thus it is natural that underwater wildlife photography also become digital in this digital age. Though touted to be expensive, underwater digital photography is not very expensive and there are cameras built especially for underwater photography. If that cannot be bought then there are suitable underwater housings built for cameras that can be taken up to a certain depth without fear of damaging the internal electronics of the camera by exposing it to water. These alternatives make underwater digital photography as much fun, if not more, as on land digital photography.
The simplest way to use a compact digital camera underwater is by thoroughly water proofing it. The usual method is by zipping it inside a clear plastic bag and testing it for leaks. If a leak is detected, or to ensure that the bag will not form any leaks, using duct tape to seal the opening is also recommended. This inexpensive alternative to using the same camera for underwater digital photography is not a sure fire way and is quite risky – but the benefits involved are far too many to not recommend this method for budding underwater digital photographers from capturing pristine moments in shallow waters in all their glory.
The next best way is to find professional housings for cameras. These are manufactured by many companies and provide a very safe way of transporting and using normal digital cameras at least 50 to 60 metres under water. Made from clear polymer plastic to rugged and durable polycarbon, these clear suits allow all the basic functions of the camera to be used by buttons placed outside. They also have adjustment plates for the lenses of Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras so that the best shot is obtained without exposing the camera to any kind of water. These are the most used in underwater digital photography.
But the most expensive and the best cameras are the ones solely manufactured for underwater digital photography. These cameras are made rugged and completely water proof for use by professional divers and professional photographers to take deep sea pictures. They provide the best photographs for the money invested in them and hence are one of the best options to choose if one is serious about underwater digital photography.
