If you upgrade your iPhone 3G 2.2 to 2.2.1 it’ll break your Yellosn0w partially or completely as 2.2.1 update contains a baseband firmware update 02.30.03 YellowSn0w is compatible up to baseband 02.28.00 and also note that baseband 02.30.03 is not downgradable if you have bootloader version 5.9 or upper this means a permanent lock to your iPhone. Dev team founds a way to preserve your baseband upgrading with custom firmware. But you can make custom firmware with Pwnage tool and Pwnage tool is available for Mac OS X only. If you don’t have a Mac then we have a 2.2.1 custom firmware. You need to download a custom firmware hotlinked below this custom firmware is created with Dev team Pwnage Tool that strips out the baseband update from the upgrade. But this guide is for already pwned phones only.
- Download the iPhone 3G iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Custom_Restore.ipsw from Filesavr. This custom firmware is created with Dev team Pwnage Tool Mac Version that strips out the baseband update from the upgrade. But this guide is for already pwned phones only. Means upgrading your iPhone 3G from 2.2 to 2.2.1 will not upgrade your baseband from 02.28.00 to 02.30.03 so you can run YellowSn0w later.
- Once the download completes put your iPhone in to DFU mode by following the steps given below
- Attach the phone to the pc
- Turn the phone off
- Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds
- Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.
- At no point will the display come on. Now your restore should work.
- Now Launch iTunes and shift-click on the Restore button (option click for Mac users). Then browse to the custom restore 2.2.1 firmware you downloaded from us and let iTunes take care of the rest. Once the upgrade is finished you haven’t need to jailbreak it again since it was already jailbroken.
- Not connect your iPhone 3G in to WiFi and once the connection established fire the CYDIA from the springboard. Cydia app may requires restart first time.
- When Cydia starts click on the Manage tab on the bottom menu bar. In the Manage tab, click on the Sources button in the middle. You will need to add the source to the yellowsn0w repo to utilize the soft unlock.
- Now click on “Edit” on the top right, then “Add” on the top left. In the URL, type: the following url without quotes “ http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com/ “. When you are done click “Done” and then “Browser.”
- Now click on the “Search” tab and type “yellowsn0w” and install the app “yellowsn0w.” Once the Yellosn0w is installed restart your iPhone and Wait for the slide to unlock screen and then wait 15 seconds more. If you don’t see the SIM card working, reinsert the SIM and wait another 10 seconds. If every thing goes fine then enjoy the firmware 2.2.1 with baseband 02.28.00
