WP Max Magazine Wordpress Theme
You don’t need to search for Excellent Wordpress Themes which give you a Magazine Look along with simplicity and easy setup. Here is WP Max Wordpress theme which you can download for free here which is quite better after the freemium wordpress theme we had covered previously.
Set Up Tutorial Guide : Once you install this Awesome theme you will get a new option under your Appearance Section in Wordpress Admin named as ‘Wordpress Max Options’ which has all the detailed options to setup and configuration settings. This theme is awesome not just for the final looks but for the settings it offers to the person setting it up because all the options are clearly defined and anyone can play with the theme the way they want to.
The first option is ‘Features Manager’ which is the Features Category section where you need to Enter a Category ID which is a Number out of whose posts would be shown on the blogs main section with few links to the blog posts from that category. I would recommend to use smaller sized thumbnails on the front page because that would allow you to use the whole screen size and display many more things.
The next option is ‘Latest News Manager’ which does not display any news stuff but shows the blogs latest posts along with thumbnails from the Images of the articles. Here you can also configure the number of posts with excerpt you want to display and few posts titles linked to the articles without the excerpts along with the thumbnails size. These posts are shown on the top center section only which is like the main part of your website where most of the visitors read through.
The next part is Carousel Setup which is like a Gallery of Images shown on the center of the blog in a Horizontal Format linked to those Blog Posts. The Images are automatically grabbed from the respective blog posts automatically by the theme using PhpThumb script and all the thumbnails which are generated are stored in a ‘cache’ folder. Its recommended to select a Category here whose most blog posts have atleast 1 good quality image within them. Try to setup upto 15-20 number of posts to be shown under this section which are shown in a beautiful looking Photo Gallery.
Setup Front Page Categories is a feature where in you will be asked for 2 Category ID’s which displays articles from both of these next to next in which few posts with excerpts are shown and few Posts links are displayed. Along with this you can also setup the Number of Words you want to be shown as Excerpts under the main entries. Following this there is a option called as ‘Sidebar Tabs’ which is based on Ajax with 2 options and its recommended to keep this setting untouched since its just a good feature for your sidebar.
The Video Options setting is a option where you need to enter a Video Category ID, and this script comes along with a Video Uploading feature with a player to show the videos on your blog. Since iam not going to upload or host any Videos on my blog i wont be going into detail into this one and remove this code – ‘include TEMPLATEPATH. ‘/templates/mediaplayer.html’;’ from the sidebar.php file to make sure any errors dont popup. Though here is some info on this one – After you have created Video category, and before doing anything else, please locate this file in your theme root under /wp-max/ theme folder. The file is called category-VIDEOID.php replace VIDEOID by the actual ID number of your recently created video category. This will allow your blog to run custom template for videos.
The Ad Manager is a beautiful option which can help you to setup advertisements on your blog with different slots given there for different networks. Just get the respective sized advertisements and paste their ad codes there which will show them directly on your blog. No need to edit your theme files or install any external advertisement plugins since this feature of Ad Manager is for you. The Flickr Gallery feature allows you to display your Latest Flickr Photos on your Blogs Footer but since iam going to install this theme on a Non-Personal Blog i dont need this feature following which i will be removing the code for this Flickr Gallery Section.
The Feedburner setting seems to be useless now because it asks you for FeedBurner ID (numerical value) which is now not available in the new feedburner which is owner by Google and it works on Text Based ID. Overall this is a seriously recommended theme for everyone who is looking for a Professional Look Blog.

Thank You for this excelent theme! But I have one problem with it: cache folder of phpthumb script steadily grows – now it occupied more then 5 GB (and several thousand files) on disk
I think that script dont delete old cache files. What is wrong?

The cache folder should not be deleted because it consists of the resized images which are displayed on the homepage, category pages etc next to the articles excerpts.

i tried this theme on WP 2.8.4 and thumbnails dont show up on home page.
how to do that?
i tried all options in setting and used 100×100 thumbnails also
is this theme not suited to latest wordpress version?
i saw in one site showing this theme demo working good on WP 2.6x and 2.7x but no thumbnails on 2.8x

i observed that thumbnails are displayed only when they’re uploaded as attachments in wp-max theme.
how about grabbing any image(outside wp-content/uploads) inserted through <img tag ??

That is the worst part of theme based thumbnails.There are other plugins to grab any image anywhere from the post.Like Advanced excerpt thmbnailer

You will have to rework on all the files index, archieve, search results and remove the codes for post content and replace with excerpts code and then activate the thumbnail for excerpts.

but i have very little knowledge about this.
can you please give me an example of any one file in this theme (for ex: archive.html) and how to remove the codes for post content and replace with excerpts code.

surprisingly in posts whatever is inserted into ‘excerpts’ is not working, but if i insert <img code at start of post, it's appearing.
but its working only for featured post and others posts from same category.

You need to use the Custom Images section or else just add the Image anywhere in the post and use the plugins as mentioned above – Thumbnails for Excerpts Stuff.
