Common Admission Test CAT
CAT – Common Admission Test is the all India common entrance exam which will enable you to get admissions into the most highly reputed B-schools in India. The schools include IIMs at Ahmadabad, Bangalore, lucknow, Indore, Calcutta, Kozhikode and Shillong.
Apart from this, other institutions which give admission to their MBA programs through CAT are Nirma institute of management, S. P. Jain Institute, MICA etc.
The Common admission test (CAT) consists of four sections that include Data interpretation, Reading comprehension, Verbal reasoning and Problem solving.
All the questions are of objective type (multiple choices) and you need to select the correct answer. You will be provided with a computer coded answer sheet where you’ll need to shade the correct answer with a HB pencil. One mark is awarded for every correct answer and 1/4th of a mark is deducted for every wrong answer.
The common admission test (CAT) is usually conducted once a year which is by the second week of December. You may be eligible for writing the exam only if you are a graduate or studying in the final year of your degree course.
The most vital factor to pass these exams is by learning the trick of time management. Out of 185 questions, if you attempt just 100 questions out of which you get 90 correct answers, you’ll have better chances than a person who attempts all the questions and gets only 160 correct answers. The ratios between that attempted questions and the correct answers are the main criteria for cracking this test.
After the test, the candidates are selected based on their ranks. Since the seats nations are very less, only the top rankers are called by the IIMs. For other B-schools, which offer MBA programs based on your CAT score, you need to apply separately by buying their application forms.
After the selection process, the students are called for a group interview. It is more or like a stress interview where you are provided with real time problems and you are expected to give the best feasible solution under the circumstance.
You are expected to be patient and smart in solving the problems. There will be a final individual interview after this process based on which you will be absorbed by the institute for the MBA program.
