The study of the application of the various sciences used for the purpose of investigating these activities is known as forensics.It is a team of forensic scientists that collects all clues from a crime scene and conducts an in depth analysis of them in the laboratory. These clues are then developed into evidences which can be produced in legal courts. These evidences range from hair to saliva and body fluids to blood or impressions of tires and finger prints.

Forensic sciences are even applied in civil cases such as determining the validity of a signature. The nature of the job of a forensic scientist is such that he is supposed to work in close cognition with the police. The role of forensic scientists has more than doubly increased in cracking crime cases of today. Since the crime detection methods have become far more advanced the police are in need of the services of forensic scientist to help them with criminal cases.

Basically as a forensic scientist you will be aiding the law and government agencies to solve all sorts of cases. This may include offering your services in digging out evidences in cases where bodies have been mutilated and decomposed. Forensic scientists even help in the crack down of white collar crimes. If you have got that adventurous spirit in you and would like to serve your nation by putting criminals behind bars then forensic sciences is the ideal career option for you.

Your future as a forensic scientist

The police force and other law enforcing agencies are the main areas where the services of a forensic scientist are required. Government and private investigation offices as well as legal systems are other areas where you can look for employment after having graduated in forensic sciences.

You can even pursue specialization in a particular branch of forensic sciences such as forensic archeology, anthropology and serology which can lead you to a job in the area of your specialization.

There is plenty of opportunity for forensic scientist in foreign countries as well. The foreign land job prospectus includes working as a medical examiner, crime scene examiner, crime laboratory analyst as well as a forensic engineer. Forensic scientists also work to produce psychological profiles of the causes, methods and consequences of crimes.

In India you will be able to find institutes that offer undergraduate and graduate programs in different branches of forensic sciences. You can even pursue your doctorate in one of the branches of forensic sciences.

    I am a student of Bsc. Biotechnology, studying in final year, and will be gradutating by may 09. I was looking to take Msc in Forensic criminology, but i am a little worried regarding my future in this field, as our country is a comparatively back forth with other countries in acceptance of professionals with such degress. Also i am not sure about my pay or salary after the completion of this course.
    So if you could please provide me some guidance in respect to the future oppurtunities along with an approximate salary, it would have been kind of you.

    i m a student of b.Sc biotechnology of final year n i will be gradutaing by this april 2009 so i m thinking of doing forensic science diploma course of one year but i m confused wat to do because in india this course is not so popular as other countries n i m also worried about my future aspects in forensic science wats the salary aspects in this feild.

    i have given my XII std exams. Now i want to go further with B.sc froensic criminology. can you please give me some information on the colleges offering B.sc forensic science course . i’m want to take up this feild b’cause, i like it. But i’m also worried about my future as forensic science is not given much importance in our nation and also the salary is less.
