The Indian Institute of Forest Management, commonly known as IIFM is located in Bhopal. The curicullums of the institute are designed to cater to the area of forest management, environmental management, natural resource management and other related fields. Generally, the institute caters to the professionals from Forest Department or Forest Service to equip them with the excel;lence of management in the related fields.

It also selects general students to make them specialized for the forestry services. The institute came up in the beginning of the 1980s in order to protect the vulnerable ecology from support of the Government of India and the IIM Ahmedabad.

There are two types of courses available in this institute. Post Graduate Diploma in Forest Management ,PGDFM, is a two year full time course. Graduates in any discipline from any recognized University securing an aggregate marks of 50 % is eligible for applying to this institute. The candidates willing to take admission in the institute have to write the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the IIMs. In addition to the CAT application, the candidates have to separately apply for IIFM.

The candidates are shortlisted based on their CAT scores and then are subsequently grilled through a rigorous group discussion and personal interview procedure for selection. Reservation for SC, ST, OBC and physically handicapped students are provided on the basis of Government rules. The another programme offered by IIFM is a Doctoral programme, Fellow Programme in Management.

Specialisation is offered in the field of financial management, ecosystem and environment management, technical forestry, communication and extension management, marketing management, human resource management, environment and developmental economics, information technology and quantitative techniques. The candidates willing have to appear either for CAT or for GMAT.

The candidates having 5 years of experience after completion of masters degree or candidates with a masters degree in engineering field are eligible for this course. The maximum age of the candidate can be 45 years.
