L V Prasad Eye Institute Best Eye Hospital
L V Prasad Eye Institute is found to be a comprehensive eye health facility which is located in Hyderabad, India. It was founded in October 1986 by eminent ophthalmologist Dr Gullapalli N Rao. The Institute has now emerged as a world class organization, which focuses on six main areas namely comprehensive patient care, clinical research, community eye health, sight enhancement and rehabilitation, education, and in product development.
The L V Prasad Eye hospital focuses on extending it services to equitable and efficient eye care mainly to the underprivileged. The Institute’s main aim is to provide 50 percent of its surgical services free of cost to the poor and the economically disadvantaged people of the country. In collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), they have been able to design and implement many innovative community eye health care programs all over the country. Every day, nearly 200 persons from all over the country who are not able to afford eye care, now receive care from some of the best eye health trained professionals, and hundreds of people or more benefit from LVPEI’s rural affiliates and other satellite clinics that have been started in the urban slums.
The main reason for progress by LVPEI in this area of medical sciences is research and it has also collaborated with premier institutions all over the globe to excel in this particular area. Their research program takes pride in making use of cutting edge technology, which includes from stem cell transplantation right up to clinical application. They have also been able to develop innovative applications of lasers to help treat corneal and retinal diseases of the eye. They are also evolving into unconventional approaches to the treatment of glaucoma and they are now conducting frontline research into the study of molecular genetic basis of the eye diseases which is widely spreading across the globe.
Since their establishment they have been able to provided outpatient services to over 2 million people and also surgical care to over 250,000 patients with almost 50 percent of them being treated free of charge which is definitely a great achievement. They have also trained over 10,000 doctors and para-medical personnel from India and abroad. They are proud to have made over 1700 research presentations at both national and international meetings.
The basis for all their efforts is the generous support which they receive from individuals, institutions and the industry, from all over the world, who have helped to make their dream come true. The Institute is mainly managed by two important not-for-profit trusts namely the Hyderabad Eye Institute and the Hyderabad Eye Research Foundation.
Their mission is to be a centre of excellence in the eye care services, in research – basic and clinical into eye diseases and vision-threatening conditions, in training, in product development, and in rehabilitation for those with incurable visual disability. They focus on extending equitable and efficient eye care to the underserved populations of the developing world.
