A resume is the only way to make first and lasting impressions on an employer; a resume is a form of advertising so you have to make the best out of this opportunity. A good employee relations resume should be a very short and well written document that reflects your personality and your ability to perform to the best of your ability at the job. To be good at employee relations it is an added advantage to have worked with children and teens and any real working experience in this field can also work to your advantage.
If you are a novice to the employee relations field or have never had any active working experience in this field, make sure your resume is at least one page long because beyond this you will now be adding irrelevant information, it would be best to include information about your good communication and interpersonal skills which are vital in this profession if you know more than one language other than English also include this remember to include whether you can speak, write and read that language fluently. This is important and will work in your favor because in employee relations you will have to liaise and interact with many different people from different religious and cultural backgrounds.
There are four basic requirements when you are writing your resume these include
- Identification: in this section you have to include all the information about yourself such as name, phone, address, email address, you should remember to write your name in big print.
- Certification: in this section you will have to list down clearly all your endorsements, certification and date.
- past working experience: in your resume you will include all your employee relations experience in this section you might have to use action words, this might seem a bit unimportant but you will find that they make a big difference to the effectiveness of your resume. You will also have to discuss experiences that you have gone through in this field, including classroom experiences and skills gained such as employee relations methods, management skills and strategies.
- In your resume you should go on to list all the work that you have been paid and not paid for, and what experiences you learnt during that time.
An employee relations resume can also include employee relations, where you will list in reverse chronological order the employees that you have worked for, they job title that held in that position, your duties and responsibilities in that post. There should be a career objective in the resume which highl8ights your career ambitious in that positions and other career development programs you are involved in.
The resume has to include a section that has activities and honors, this is only for those people that have achieved some remarkable honors and for example Deans list, scholarships, achievements, Phi Delta Kappa etc. other special skills such computer literacy are also important and should be included in this area.
