The city was known as an engineering and ship building hub of the United Kingdom nut of late has reduce its dependence on that sector of the economy. The economy the city has now is more diverse. The city’s employment comes from mostly the tertiary sector that is the healthcare, creative industries, higher education, tourism and retail. The city has a wide range of jobs that one can choose from. The health services sector has jobs such as doctors, nurses, dentist and surgeons. The health services sector has other jobs that are not related to health care provision but rather with the administration of the hospital for example , administrative assistant, receptionist and orderly.

The city is also fat becoming a financial services city as it almost at the same level as Edinburgh in terms of the amount of business conducted there. The city might not be an industrial and ship building powerhouse like it was in the 20th century it still is the heart of the ship building industry in the United Kingdom. There are still ships that are being built in Glasgow. The city ship building industry still provides employment to engineers, welders, electricians, plumbers and defense people for ships being built for military purposes.
