Napier is a port city in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand and has a population of 57,000 people. Napier produces largest crossbred wool in the Southern Hemisphere and produces a lot of fruits and in actual fact is one of the largest apple, pear and stone fruit producing areas in New Zealand.

The city has become an important grape growing and wine production area with the fruit passing from the growers around Metropolitan Hastings and then to Napier for exporting. The city’s agricultural sector as a whole produces products such as meat, wool, pulp and timber. Tourism is a significant employer in the area, due to the fact that Napier is a popular tourist city and is in fact one of the most photographed tourist attractions in New Zealand. The city hosts some popular events such as the Art Deco Weekend, a celebration of Napier’s Art Deco heritage and history. Other events that attract tourists include the region’s annual Wine & Food Festival and Mission Concert at the Mission Estate Winery in the suburb of Greenmeadows. The events have become so popular to the extent that some of the events have attracted celebrities of the likes of Eric Clapton, Kenny Rogers, Ray Charles, and Rod Stewart.

Amongst the wide range of industries which are found in the city include the electronics industry. This is due to the large skills base that is found within the city. Within the surrounding area there is employment that is found in the wool industry. Sheep shearing skills are in high demand in the area because of the booming wool trade.
