Police Resume
A police resume should reflect good analytical, excellent communication and impressive interpersonal skills. The police resume should not only stop at that but show ability to develop new skills and aptitude to put the skills to the test and being a worthy contributor to the new found employment. The greatest asset that you have as policeman is your experience and, hence you should make sure that you market you experience as your greatest asset. Many6 firms know the value of veterans in their organizations. Being someone with extensive experience you should be in a position to give some evidence of your experience, expertise and knowledge and the other skills that you have developed or adopted over the years. Some of the great attributes that you should posses are teamwork, leadership, dedication, commitment, positive work ethic and great coordination skills.
You should be in a position to provide details of the various courses you have under gone through out your career. The courses may have been to improve your knowledge, skills and experience. The courses that you did highlight those that might have been seminars and you did as a way of increasing your knowledge. The courses if many should not all be listed but rather list only those that will be of use in your position.
You should detail areas of your career that you have always performed well. You should also include achievements that have defined you career not forgetting any honors or medals that you might have received as recognition for your hard and excellent work. Extracurricular activities are a must add as they add value to your resume , you should detail which field of police work you enjoy doing and it goes without saying that as a police office you need to have a clean criminal record. Your communication and interpersonal skills must be excellent and it would be an added advantage if you could list the people you have personal relationship in other departments of safety and security, for example if you know of any one in the fire department or the FBI or the CIA. That shows that you can build relationships which could be of benefit to the organization in the long run.
Police cadets that are fresh out of school can use the functional resume and for their lack of knowledge they can emphasize their educational achievements and the various projects or exercise they took as part of their police training and they have to include the results of those exercises. It is important to include exercises that relate to the job that you are applying for and you should show how they will be of assistance in your new job.
Bravery is important if you want to be a policeman and hence you should have a history of acts of bravery if not at least has the heart to perform such acts especially if you are called upon to do so.
