Agriculture is one of the main industries that offer jobs at a large scale. In the field work there is constant requirements for labor during the sewing and harvesting period. The island provides for more than a third of Canada’s potatoes emphasizing the amount of labor required. Fishery involves fishermen going out into the waters catching fish. As a large population inclusive of surrounding populations are dependant on fish as a source of food a large labor force is required.

Tourism in this area includes site seeing, tour guides being a re-quisite. Also the restaurants and hotels that cater for have job vacancies that include, waiters, cleaners, cooks, accountants and security officers. Also entertainment is a sector of tourism that requires, dancers, actors singers and program coordinators.

There was job creation in the use of a ferry system were workers are required to maintain the appearance and the running of the ships on a day to day basis. Unfortunately heavy industry and manufacturing is limited on the island which limits the job opportunities available.

Teaching opportunities are availed with the existence of a university, college and several secondary schools. Medical practitioners including doctors psychiatrist are required as a total of seven hospitals are present on the island and in preparation for the oncoming summer games being hosted by the island Part time work is made available mainly due to these games for example environmentalists, grounds men and many other job opportunities.
