Dell streak hits Indian Shelves with Rs. 34,990 price tag

October 5, 2010 by Neal

DELL STREAK BACKOne of the largest Computer manufactures Dell has now launched its mobile, smart phone cum tablet Dell Streak in India today. Dell has targeted the incomplete space between a tablet and a high end smart phone by launching the smart tablet phone with a catchy and huge screen size of a huge 5 inch capacitive multi-touch Gorilla glass WVGA (800 * 480) display. The Gorilla glass screen offers high-quality crystal clear image and is also scratch-resistant in nature.

Dell streak is powered by Qualcomm’s 1GHz snapdragon 8250 mobile processor with 512MB ROM and 512MB SD RAM. This Dell Streak smart phone cum tabloid carries a sharp 5 megapixel auto focus camera with a dual LED flash and a VGA front facing camera for video chatting. Currently, this phone comes with an Android’s 1.6 version operating system but soon it will get a major update on Android’s 2.2 version Froyo very soon before this year.

Dell has made sure that image clarity is crystal clear by adding ultra-intelligent facial proximity sensor and also ambient light sensors so that image auto-adjusts the screen brightness and also this feature saves the battery life accordingly. This phone comes with standard specifications like Integrated 3G, Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), Bluetooth 2.1 (think headsets, external keyboards, stereo headsets, etc.), Micro SD slot expandable up to 32GB and also UMTS / GPRS / EDGE class 12 GSM radio support with link speeds of HS DPA 7.2 Mbps / HS UPA. This Dell Streak comes with 2GB of internal storage space . But the memory can be expanded up to 32GB via Micro SD card. According to the company, the extended capacity can support up to 42 movies, 32,000 photos, or 16,000 songs.

Dell launches its streak line of mobile smart phone tablet phone ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy tab which is nearly a month away from the launch. Dell in India has launched this handset in collaboration with Qualcomm and TATA DoCoMo GSM operator which is one of  the fastest growing telecom operator. This device is available with Tata DoCoMo postpaid connection with 500MB Free data connection usage for the first six months from the date of purchase.

With special additional features like Digital compass,  Social networking integration, MP4/H.263/H.264/ WMV player, MP3/WAV/e AAC+/WMA player, Google Search, Maps, G mail, You Tube, Google Talk, Quick Office document viewer, Photo viewer/editor, Organizer, Voice memo/dial and geo tagging you will never feel left out in terms of ever growing communication needs. This phone also comes with Integrated Google Maps with voice-activated search, turn-by-turn navigation, street and satellite views and also provides access to over 38,000 apps (and growing) via the Android Marketplace.

It will be interested to see how this Dell streak fares in front of 7-inch Olive Pad which comes from the table of Olive Telecom’s table which also comes with lot of phone connectivity features and also more importantly Android 2.1 out of the box. Dell has priced this smart tablet phone with a price tag of a whopping Rs.34, 990. This phone will be easily available in all TATA DoCoMo official Dive-in stores and also in other leading electronic and mobile stores.

But, i personally feel that this Dell Streak box packed with Android 1.6 version on board is just too pricey at Rs. 34, 990. So my suggestion is either to wait for buying this handset or better  opt for other smart choices like  Samsung Galaxy S or Motorola Milestone which are priced around a whopping Rs. 10,000 less than around Rs. 35, 000.

It is a high priced device when compared to the iPad at just 28k in Indian market. And also, the only good feature of the device against the iPad is the 5MP camera.
