How to Speed Up PC Boot & Shutdown Process

December 4, 2008 by Amit Bhawani

Normally a PC would take around a minute’s time for complete shutdown and almost the same time for restarting. There are several ways which can help you in boosting this process because its sometimes very important to increase the bootup speed, when you are in urgency.

Deleting Useless Stuff :
Go to your ‘My Computer’ section and right click on the drive in which your operating system is installed and go to Properties. You will find a small option called as ‘Disk Cleanup’ , which when clicked will give you a option to coose the files you want to clean up.
Disk Clean Up
1. My Files Only
2. Files from all users of this computer.
Once you continue you will find a ‘Disk Clean Up Options’ page which allows you to selects the files you want to delete from your drive ie Temporary Internet Files, Downloaded Program Files, Recycle Bin, Setup Log Files, Temporary Files etc

Using CCleaner :
CCleanerOver all the Disk Cleaning & System Maintenance Software Applications i love CCleaner because of its simplicity and features which makes sure you totally clean up your PC and make sure its runs super fast. It not only deletes the temporary files in the different browsers, but also cleans up the temporary files created by different applications like Photoshop, Acrobat Reader, Google Earth, Winzip etc which cannot be easily found and deleted.

CCleaner Options Page

Using MsConfig :
Go to Start>Run> Type – ‘Msconfig’
You will be shown the System Configuration option page. Here you need to click on the ‘Startup’ menu to find our all the programs which are loaded once your computer has booted and started. You can uncheck all the applications which you feel are unwanted and you dont need them to be started at boot up time example – Instant Messengers, Movie/Audio players etc. This can save up huge amount of PC starting time and you can run any of these blocked applications later from your ‘All Programs’ option.
