Free Online Plagiarism checkers for Finding Duplicate Content

January 21, 2009 by Amit Bhawani

Do you want to find out who has copied your blog articles? Have to tried out Copyscape.com and scanned your articles for duplicates? Do you want to check the content your writer has provided to you?

There are multiple reasons why you need Website Plagiarism checkers or duplicate content finding tools and this is when you start using online tools like Copyscape which offers you a comparision of the original source and the copied content along the number of words copied in a different colour. When there are no copied versions then Copyscape reports you with a message of ‘No Results’ found for your website.

Copyscape has limits on the number of searches you can make for a website and this is limited to just 5 searches in a month, after which you need to signup for a premium service chargeable at 0.05$ per search with a minimum package of 5$ for 100 searches. Now if you buy this premium service you are offered with Text search along with URL search where you can enter a small text and find the copied versions of it if any.

Any Free Alternative to Copyscape?
Yes there is a free option for all the bloggers and websites which have a feed, using CopyGator which allows you to monitor any RSS Feed and get updated whenever there is a copied version of your articles of your blogs.

Copygator Duplicate Content Check

Here is a small preview of how CopyGator shows you the copied content report when you perform a duplicate content check
Copied Content Check

CopyGator tells you all the content theif’s information along with the option to keep you updated via feeds or email whenever there is a new copied version found. It also offers you with a small badge which you can embed on your blog and whenever there is a copied version of your blog post the colour of the badge changes from green to red, which means that you are being notified for plagiarism.

The next option to this is Copyright Spot which is a free flagiarism detection tool, working on a search engine kind of system where you need to enter your website URL and get all the copied results.

Copyright Spot Content Check

It shows you the total number of words copied along with the copied content in different colour, but the service is not really perfect in my opinion and is not able to find out all the duplicate content. But since its hard to find really good alternatives to Copyscape, we can give the above two services a try.

Good list. Mind if I add a few though? 🙂

First, Copy Alerts (copyalerts.com), emails results to you and even has a new WP plugin.

Second, Google Alerts (google.com/alerts): Similar deal but you have to select the phrase or use a digital fingerprint.

Finally, speaking of digital fingerprints, you might want to check out Copyfeed for WordPress, I’m trying to remember if it is updated for 2.7, but it works very well and can even blacklist spammers.

Let me know if you have any questions!
