Remember a week back we had a a discussion on chinese mobile phones in India which are going to be murdered by the government because of No IMEI numbers in them, but many are mainly confused about the clarity of information provided by the telecom department regarding the disconnection.
Total numbers of Handsets to be affected by this new Telecom Rule – 250 Lakh Handsets. Deadline for Disconnection – First January 6th, Second March 31st
Both of the deadlines have been crossed and the mobile companies are given another 15days ie the end of April month as the final time until which they have to track all these chinese handsets and stop their services.
Main reasons why these handsets should be discontinued are :
They cannot be Tracked – As per the Law, all the GSM mobile phones have a unique IMEI number which is shown to the cell phone towers in order to track down the location of the mobile phone user, since these handsets dont have IMEI numbers tracking is not possible and it would be hard to find the owner of the handset.
IMEI Numbers – You would have known the way you can find imei numbers which are normally 15-17 digit numbers often shown as strings of zero’s and the chinese mobiles are assigned in lots of hundreds or thousands rather than IMEI number system.
Security risks are the main concern regarding the disconnection of these handsets because recently in all the terror attacks by terrorists there were no traces because the terrorists used chinese handsets and since they cannot be tracked, its hard to control the handsets owners and spy on them.
I got one before. And its cell expole.
