Buy Amazon Kindle 2 in India – Price Review

April 27, 2009 by Amit Bhawani

After reading a lot of reviews and videos on the Amazon Kindle , The Digital Newpaper i thought to buy one but when you hear the name of Amazon you can think one thing for sure – They don’t ship anything to India, which means all those excellent offers on eBooks or millions of products you find on Amazon.com are just as a Display Store for you since you cannot buy any of these. The only option let out for you in order to buy them is that you can let your Relatives or Friends buy it for you and then courier it for you, dont forget the huge amount of shipping charges you need to pay and also the extra burden you need to pass to your contacts for sending the gadget to you.

Another option is to find online stores which can send you any Amazon.com products shipped to your home, though at a bit higher price but well when you want to buy something without giving problems to others, you should be ready to shell out some extra money. As per a report from iSuppli Corp posted at Cnet Crave the Amazon Kindle 2 originally costs Amazon around 185$ which is almost 50% of their Retail price in market which is at 360$ which includes all their expenses, profiles, advertising costs etc.

Buy Kindle 2 Online

Even though at 360$ the product is still good because you can travel around places and stay away from your bulky laptops which are atleast 1.5-2kgs in weight, where as the Kindle is weighing around 290 grams, almost the weight of advanced mobile phones. The display specifications include 6″ diagonal E-Ink® electronic paper display, 600 x 800 pixel resolution at 167 ppi, 16-level gray scale. The Kindle would be able to offer you with 2Gb of Memory Storage though 1.4Gb would be available to the user and they dont have to connect it to a PC if they need to transfer ebooks because it has inbuilt 3G connectivity & Wi-Fi connectivity.

One of the excellent feature of Kindle 2 is the Battery Life which is very Important while you are travelling and it offers upto 4 Days of continious run if Wi-Fi is On and more than 2 weeks if Wifi is disconnected. A USB Port to connect it to the Power adapter or a PC or Mac computer. You get a Inbuilt web Browser with a option to Add Text anywhere, which means that if you are a blogger you can directly comment through different blogs and read them too.

Amazon Kindle 2 DisplayUse as a PC for Blogging, Use as a iPod for Listening to Mp3 or Podcasts. Automatically the files are converted to PDF and you can view the formatted version. Download any books within a minutes time and enjoy reading everything on your Kindle 2. Iam trying to order one in India while waiting for a confirmation from the company if i can connect to the Internet , when i dont have wifi access because if its limited to US/UK telecom networks, then downloading stuff would get harder for me.

No i am not using any ebook reader. I was thinking of buying 1. So went to amazon site. Over there i can see that it could be shipped to India as well. There are 2 variants of the kindle and the one available to international customers is worth $259. This excludes the shipping and custom duty.

I suggest you wait for a while and see how Nook takes its shape. Nook has far more features compared to Kindle. But, Nook is in its initial stage, so its performance is low. How ever, with the next software i believe that it would rock. And second thing that i’m waiting to see in Nook is the bigger screen version. Now it only has the 6″ model. i want the 9.” model. I believe it is worth waiting.

    Hello.
I am a student and wish to purchase Kindle to help me with my studies. I am required to refer to a large no. of technical book and most of these are available on net in pdf format. I feel that Kindle like ebook reader can help me although it is a costly. I would like to know how Kindle reads pdf books as this is the mail use for me and before making such a costly investment which I can bearly afford it will be great to have confirmation of users for my need. I can sent a few pages from my pdf books to any user who can help me confirm on how they are displayed on their Kindle machines. Can any Kindle users help me with my request? I am based in Mumbai and it will be best if I can personally interact with a user from the city.
    Kindly help

If you buy Kindle 3 (latest generation) wifi+ shipping and handling + Tax and import duty, it costs US $ 273.25 from India( today’s ICICI conversation is Rs. 11990. I think it will be nearly same as wink will be after tax and shipping. May be more. If you compare kindle is much more than wink in many aspects. I would buy Kindle through Amazon.com. They will take care of shipping and duty fee etc, for you. Yes, you may have to pay little for currency conversion to your visa or mastercard credit card or to ATM, ask your bank.
