Setting up Blog Traffic & Revenue Targets

May 30, 2008 by Amit Bhawani

Just adding content on your blog is not the right way to make money via blogging. This is a very important point because today i suggested someone on IM who updated his blog with daily 5/10 original posts on different internet related topics and seeing the number of comments, alexa ranks or other factors it can be easily found that not even 500 visitors read his blog daily, then the first question which comes is ‘Is there is a need of such high amount of content on a dead blog’?

The point is that adding content to your blog does not make sure you start making money on the web. At times you can make money from selling paid reviews but whats the point if you are developing a blog just for paid reviews or for some small amount of link sales. Try to develop a blog with a serious target on monetization to make money online. If you are running ppc ads like adsense, ypn, clicksor or bidvertiser on your blog you need to have a target setup for your blog.

Blogging Targets :

Month Traffic per month Income per month
1-3 0-500 Unique Visitors No Expectation
4-6 500-2000 Unique Visitors Upto 200$/Month
6-9 2000-10000 Unique Visitors 200-500$/Month
9-12 1000-25000 Unique Visitors 500-2000$/Month

From the above small example you can setup your own blog income targets and based on your experiance & marketing skills you can reach your targets earlier or try to setup higher targets. The targets achievement can be easy if you setup a target plan and try to implement on the same. If you are developing a content based blog you would be expecting free traffic from the search engines in order to make the most out of the lowest costs, but if you are developing a blog and trying to monetize from affiliate products you can even advertise using ppc ads like adwords, adcenter and try to get the highest amount of traffic at the lowest cost and convert the sales/leads.

Its very important to make sure you promote your blog and also try to optimize your ads in order to make the maximum from your visitors. Getting traffic is easy but its hard to keep the same traffic stable or keep it increasing.

Traffic Source :
If you are a good marketing guy and know how to get traffic from social networking websites, you can easily reach your targets but this does not mean that you are going to make the most money or you are going to sustain these traffic levels. Traffic from websites like stumble upon are pretty useless because dont convert in terms of making money nor in terms of getting subscribers and you would just waste up your bandwidth. But if you are going with all the blogging seo rules and following white hat seo you can obviously start gaining traffic from the search engines which would last for a longer period and ofcourse this is free traffic.
