If you closely look into this blog’s custom modifications, you can find that the blog’s homepage has very less amount of latest posts, the category pages have different number of posts and search results show something else. By default wordpress limits you to show the same number of posts you set up in Options > Reading menu for homepage + single posts page + search results page + category template pages.
Whats the need of Different Posts Per Page?
Generally you would like to show more number of posts on your category pages and show limited number of posts on the homepage because a very long homepage would make the blog look boring. Another reason for Chronological Order is that you would like to show the first posts in your categories because your posts style would be teaching something day by day basis and showing the posts from oldest to latest would be the best solution for this.
Just download, upload & activate the plugin and go to settings menu and change the options in order to show the desired number of posts per page on your wordpress based blog. A Excellent plugin for people who love to play around their blogs and are looking for better usability for their viewers by showing whats required for the visitors.
Awesome plugin! Great find…
Amit, this is a nice plugin but does the plugin show post excerpt or the full post or only the post title other than on the homepage, based on the numbers set.Is there a way to set only to show post titles in the archives, rather than title+excerpt and show only the post titles from the second page onwards.
@ Venkat : Search for Categories.php, Category Template (category.php) and remove the excerpt code and just keep the post title link code. You can check out any of my blog’s category for demo : https://www.amitbhawani.com/blog/category/adsense/ , hope it helps!
Hi Amit,
grt blog indeed. I was just wondering how you created the home page. Is it static? Plz let me know and do you have to host wordpress for different blogs on amitbhawani.com? Thanx!!
Hi, the homepage of amitbhawani.com is a wordpress based blog.
You can install multiple copies of wordpress in your domain using this tutorial – http://www.makemoneynext.com/installing-wordpress-cms-using-cpanel-fantastico/
Just select the option ‘Install in Directory’ and give the sub folder name for installation of multiple wordpress blogs.
hi amit,
Tanks for the answer but my question is what is location of of your home page and how to create a home like yours. Thanks
@pratap, Iam using arthemia blog – http://tinyurl.com/amitblogtheme/ theme on my homepage too with RSS feed Widget on the sidebar to show sub blogs latest posts.
Hi Amit, Thanks a lot for ur answer but what i want to ask is that i want to create several blogs on one site like yours and want a home page, how to go abt that. Plz explain step by step. I shall be highly thankful to u.
regards
First off, I’d like to clarify the topic. The word chronological means “arranged in the order of time” and it is the direct translation of the original Greek meaning exactly that.
The WP default is already “reverse chronological order.” That is, from the most recent to the oldest. Time does not run backward, from this moment to the past. Time runs forward from now to the next, in the order in which things happen.
Moving on, a plujin that used to work (Custom Query String) stopped working a few WordPress versions ago. My site, originally done in WP2.0, used to be an orderly travel journal that started with the first planning of a two-month trip and ended with my return. That’s the way a travel journal works, recording day-by-day events in the order in which they occur. The purpose is to take the reader along for the ride and share the surprises as they happen.
But with 2.7 (and maybe earlier) the plugin stopped working. As far as I can determine, it is an orphan. I have not yet found any plugin that works. If anyone knows of one, I’d appreciate hearing of it. TIA
Hi Amit,
I use arthemia theme for my blog. My problem is I am not able to set up page numbering for home page. Please help and explain step-by-step!
Hi, regarding the arthemia theme, i guess you would have purchased it from colorlabsproject, hence you should email them once, since they need to offer you support for licensed themes.
