BSNL EVDO Data Card Unlimited Wireless Internet Services

BSNL is going to start offering wireless internet services in India with the launch of EVDO Data Cards. BSNL has the lowest downtime when compared to any other broadband service providers hence its very much recommended to cancel your other wireless broadband services and get a Network Interface Card (NIC) or EVDO Card which offers speeds upto 2.4Mbps.

BSNL Evdo Data CardThe Data card is available at a cost of 2800Rs from BSNL or costs you 150Rs/month when you rent it and the minimum rental period is 3 months. You can also make calls to other mobile/land line phones and you will be charged with the normal pulse rate basis.

If you compare other wireless internet service providers like Tata Indicom Plug 2 surf, Wimax, Reliance Netconnect they charge their customers around 1500Rs for unlimited internet plan and BSNL charges 400Rs for the same services and no other company offers you Data Cards on rental basis other than BSNL. BSNL is also known for the highest telecom networks because of their highest number of towers, this is the reason you can stay connected even if you are travelling in the most remote places.

The EVDO is not yet officially launched by BSNL and its hoped that this July BSNL will be offering the data cards for sale/lease at these ultimately low prices. The speed of this broadband service would be around 120kbps but for sure a consistent speed. These Data Cards are specifically designed for laptops and hence its not recommended to try to connected them to your PC computers. The data card supports voice calls and also offers you a feature to send/recieve SMS messages.

    • Yes it is launched in all major cities. you can get that at a cost of Rs.2500

  9. I’m using a BSNL CDMA 2000 1X EVDO USB Modem since June’08 at Bhopal. Last line first… I’m highly satisfied with its performance! I suggest following: do not go for EVDO Data Card, as it is older version product. Go for EVDO USB Modem only. Also do not buy it (as technology keeps changing so fast), take it on rent. I’m paying Rs.843 to be precise per month all inclusive for unlimited access. And dear friends, I’m getting download data transfer rate… 60 to 80 kilo BYTES per second! 🙂

  10. … as of now, any EVDO connection is “City Specific”, i.e. my Bhopal EVDO did not work at Indore, or for that matter, in any other state. But I’m told that very soon BSNL would make National roaming possible.

Sir, I would like to know about all the terrifs of EVDO data card with the maximum speed, moreover I also want to know whether this data card unlike relience and tata indicom cards go off very frequently or not.. because i want to use it for continuous voice enability , i.e video and voice chat for a long hours( for e- tutoring ) .. Is it worth getting this data card for the above mentioned work? Please let me know where and whom should I contact with full details and their numbers

    • EVDO and the tariff plans associated:

      Actually Evdo is nothing but Evolution-Data Optimization and is the Standard for Internet Service Providers on wireless internet connections for speeds ranging upto 2.4Mbps. The data costs you 3500 bucks(INR) one time payment.There is also provision for all of them who cannot afford to purchase it as a whole. Such people can get them at a monthly of 200 Rs/ mo-(INR) rentals. As of now the cards are of limited availability, and as u know BSNL do things at its own pace of time

      Tariffs of BSNL EVDO Data Card:
      BSNL charge only Rs.400+tax including voice rentalcharges. While other service providers charge more than Rs.1500 + tax for the same service.

      BSNL offers this SANCHAR NET CARDS , a prepaid card system just like their calling cards for Phones both landline and mobile. These work on CDMA 2000 1X Technology. These can be enhanced on both evdo that gives 2.4Mbps or BSNL NIC 144kbps cards.

  39. I am using BSNL EVDO…. It gives speed of 100-150 KBPS… It is an unlimited plan so I dont have to worry about the usage.. I downloaded 700 MB Ubuntu OS in about 6 hours… Now only fools would opt for reliance or airtel data card

I am using Reliance ZTE Modem.It is too worst.Any body are planning to purchase this please contact me i will be sell it.They mentioned 150kbps speed but it comes only 60 kbps of maximum speed and download 400 bytes to 10 kbps.And also usage charges are very high.It is worst service in net.So first of all reliance people must know to say truth of instrument.

    • I’m agree with Hema…Reliance is totally useless, i purchase Reliance data card in march 2010, once the day I installed it…..I facing too many issue. this is too worst and never think to go with it. I complaint so many time reliance customer….and they never respond properly they registered my complained and after few days they told me ..”Issue is resolved” but the same issue is coming. Now I m not going to pay bills…..which is actually my monthly rent.
      I ask to reliance please refund it and give me my money…I’ll pay whole bills…which is use less for me ..What should i do?

      Once again Relaince is totaly useless…never go with it.

    I am using this from last 2months + in ahmedabad area
    Complain in BSNL office more than 10 times that I am not able to access net perfectly.

    They told me keep USB drive on top of the building and will work well..!!!

    Even this device not give download speed more than 3.5 to 4 KBPS

    NOT ABLE TO CONNECT FTP EVEN A SINGLE TIME … TO UPLOAD ANYTHING…

    I told them I will go to Consumer court about this, they told no problem with it.

    I have been purchased this USB card in 3300 and if I stop using this connection my money will waste.
    Please guide me how can I solve this problem.

  61. at rajkot city it is still costly i m paying every month rs.888 out of which 200 rs.for rent of device and 550 per month charges.i think bsnl should reduce rate further to make it affordable to middle class people.

COMPARE TO RELIANCE FLAT PLAN (400+TAX P.M. 75KBPS UNLIMITED)IT STANDS VERY FAR CONCERN TO SPEED AND TARIFF. I HAVE TOLD THAT ITS MONTHLY CHARGE WOULD BE AROUND 500 + TAX BUT ITS WORTH IT.   73. I have forgotten to share the speed i got from it. according to speedtest.com its download speed is shown around 711 kbps and upload speed is around 73 kbps, but if you download several things simultaneously you will get around 60-120 kbps

  80. I am using it in Dehradun… It costed me 4000 Rs to purchase and 250Rs per month tariff for unlimited use.. But I am deeply dissappointed by the performance… I never get more than 10KBps download speed.. they say the speed is 144kbps.. but its terribly slow…

    However I must say that it connects smoothly and seldom disconnects automatically…

    I wonder why Internet is still a big luxury in India.. I was in Europe and the speeds are blistering and costs are less… I was getting real 20MBPS there in just 50 Euro per month…

    I hope someday we deprived Indians will get something like that easily…

    This is Devina Mathur…one more frustrated customer of EVDO data cardI am staying in Wadgaonshiri, Pune..

    I bought EVDO data card from BSNL office in first week of Oct. Till date I am not able to connect to the internet because of the below mentioned reasons :

    1) My laptop has MS Vista as the OS and EVDO does not support or the CD i got does not have the set up which support Vista.
    Any how I managed to get the installer from some where after lot of struggle.

    2) I installed the EVDO vista installer on 20th Nov on my laptop.I followed all the instructions given in User manual. I have done any mistake from my side and but I expected some proactive help or confirmation from BSNL side on this.

    3) Till date I am not able to connect to the internet as its giving me an error message.The light on the card is YELLOW. I dont know if this should be the color or it should change to some other color as its activated.

    I have already got my first months bill even though EVDO is not yet activated properly.I purchased the EVDO card for 3600Rs. and now my bill is for 5001….. yes 50001… I am not doing any typing mistake…. its five thousand and one rs…..

    I dont know why its 5001/-…… I havent used it even for a single min as its not yet activated… I even did not receive any call from BSNL regarding the confirmation on activation….

    After seeing the bill i realised that my card is activated….. as those guys have added 500 as activation charges.but actually its not yet activated.

    Please advise my plan of action as I am not interested in paying the bill …

  102. This is what can be called the Indian consumer dilemma. If you go for a govt owned service you are going to get frustrated as there is no infrastructure, support and professionalism.
    If you go for a private service you will be charged more and there is no assurance that it will last long.
    BSNL is a sarkari thing.. and all this is bound to happen ..

    WE need to except that it is BSNL who has given chance to all widespread man to be familiar with telecommunications at very reasonable prices.
    Besides all practical & administrative problems few of HONEST employees of BSNL has really handled fantastically a very veryyyyyyyy big organization.
    Delays are there.
    You don’t face que & delays in servicings in even BIG PARTIES?!!!!!!!!
    But almost “NO” malpractices found in any sector if you are prepared & your case is clear.
    Actually we who r going to make them to work hard for us so I do generally.

      Where in Visakhapatnam are you located? I am near Grand Bay, Vizag.
      The speed you are getting in your EVDO card is 150kbps or 150kBps (capital B or small b)? Actually, it should come more than 256 kBps.

  108. the evdo card is shit , the speed lies between 0 kbps to 249 kbps max . the service is out for most of the day ,2-3 hrs a day its up and then it goes down ,data transfr rate is 5kbps max at the speed of 249 kb ,basicaly its a scam by bsnl froading people,my advise never buy this card its shit and am suffering , there is no return on this if u serrender it tooooo

  117. Hi I spoke to BSNL guys.. The plans are ok. as the device cost is 3500 and Rent: 500/month for unlimited scheme. But the speed of the internet is the only factor holding me . they told that it is only 144 kbps and goes upto 1 Mbps only which is not matching with the website details (It is given as 2.4 Mbps)

    — Customer service is not present
    — BSNL top-to-bottom management is unprofessional.

    Impression: Do not use BSNL datacard unless you have money to waste.

I have NIC card and it SUCKSSS…….Better get the card in rental before buying it..Some places the bsnl guys say they cannot give it for rent..In such a case , “Pls ask the bsnl guys to inspect ur house or wherever ur gonna use and chekc the signal strength before u get the connection”(this is actually an official rule for the bsnl ppl but those fools never follow this !!)..and if ure one of the frustrated consumers like me , i have a tip for u to increase ur speed..now i get speeds upto 110-120 kbps.. I use a laptop , so i took it around my house and tested the internet speed from http://calcuttatelephones.com/bandwidthmeter/meter.php . i mean dont keep movin while its testing..first identify a place where its high..then try orienting the antenna till u get good speed…After u have identified the direction, either shift ur workplace there or try adjusting the antenna in that direction from the place where u work(for example if the signal strength is high near some corner of visiting hall and ure using the thing in ur bedroom , position the antenna in the direction of the corner of visiting hall from the bedroom)..
    It worked for me !!
    BUt pls donot buy this NIC card until they check ur premises for signal strength.. and remember U CANNOT RETURN YOUR CARD FOR REFUND…

After reading all this, I think they are all the same, I was thinking Reliance should be hanged to death in some latrine, (like someone above has suggested for BSNL), because I am using their broadband which is supposed to be 3.1 mbps but most times, gives surfing speed of 0.1 kbps to 10 kbps, especially at night in heart of Pune city. You cannot use skype, etc. etc. It is also 1500 rps after paying 3500 for the data card. I am willing to sell it if someone wants to buy it. Any suggestions or offers to convert this modem to use with other service providers such as bsnl?
    I know, they should all be hanged in some latrine, but there’s little choice for travelers.

  176. For roaming user, you need to ask bsnl to enable roaming profile for your evdo datacard. User Name/Password for roaming is different then local user name password. For bhopal users, local user name/password is cdma/cdma but for roaming user name password is stdcodewithout0+phonenumber@aaavid.in/stdcodewithout0+phonenumber.
