December 3, 2009 by Amit Bhawani

Site PerformanceGoogle Webmaster Tools Labs has come up with another excellent tools which not only reports you with the web pages load speed but also with the time it takes for your web pages to load on the web browsers. You need to login to your webmaster tools account and then verify your website in order to get started. This is really important because Google needs you to prove that you the website owner. Next on the left menu under the Dashboard > Labs > Site Performance

Next click on the Site Performance Link and it will give you complete stats related to your website.

Performance overview
On average, pages in your site take 20.5 seconds to load (updated on Nov 30, 2009). This is slower than 99% of sites. The chart below shows how your site’s average page load time has changed over the last few months. For your reference, it also shows the 20th percentile value across all sites, separating slow and fast load times.

Example pages
These are some example pages from your site and the time that they take to load in a browser (in seconds). This section will point you to your most 10 Slow pages of your website which can be optimized with different options and their load time. In my case it showed that the Tech Blog was taking 26.2 seconds to load completely and this is really very high time considering my visitors who come from slow internet connection would have to wait minutes before the blog would fully load.

Page Speed suggestions
These are some example pages from your site and some suggestions on how to optimize them, based on the Page Speed tool.

Overall its a recommended tool to check out and make note of all the details it gives along with the implementations of the suggestions given there. I did install page speed add on in firefox along with gzip compression for my blog which increased the Page Speed by 60%. Do test your blog speed first along with the history reports and then implement the steps listed at Google Webmaster Tools.
