
India currently has 500 Million Cellphone users but there is no structure for this and thanks to the sudden growth in the cities. There were several stats and photographs shown on the Projector Screen which was giving information on how Indian Cities cannot even handle more than 7cms of rain. Cities like New Delhi which is the Capital of India has Metro Trains for connecting people but there are thousands of people who die with scarcity of water in the same city. Different reasons on why Delhi Bridge was Collapsed, why Hyderabad Fly Over had fall down and this was all because of the government is not supported by intelligent people but is governed with sleeping politicians.
Business cannot succeed in a City that fails – This was a very important line told by Karuna Gopal which tells the Citizens to work for the Government. The presentation was seriously informative with a lot of excellent stats about the Futuristic Cities, their growth and the problems which the normal Citizens face.
Karuna Gopal : Karuna Gopal is the President of Foundation for Futuristic Cities – an urban advisory services organization whose mission is to make Indian Cities Economically Vibrant, Equitable and Responsive. She contributed to the City Development & Renewal Strategies of five JNNURM Mission cities in India. She worked on city reform projects of DFID (UK), USAID and the World Bank. Based on the theme “Globalizing Indian Cities” she developed knowledge products & policy guidance documents to accelerate Urban Transformation. Believing that instruments aimed at cosmetic changes rarely rectify the systemic problems of Indian Cities and questioning the very paradigm on which they rely on.
