Calibrate MacBook Pro Battery – Better Performance Tips

March 13, 2010 by Amit Bhawani

MacBook Pro Battery CapacityApple MacBook Pro Battery seems to have a serious problem with its Battery and this has increased after the users have upgraded their Operating System. The MacBook Battery comes with a Internal Micro Processor which would check out the energy left in it and give you a estimate when the battery charges and discharges. Hence its essential that the battery is re-calibrated regularly to keep the battery time estimation accurate along with higher efficiency and perfect percentage displayed. The process should be started when you buy a new Laptop and then every few months while using it. People have a habit of using the Laptop always on power plugged, hence monthly once you should make sure that you run the laptop completely on battery backup and discharge it.

Lithium Polymer Ion Cells Battery

How to calibrate the MacBook Battery:

  1. The MagSafe Power Adapter should be Plugged into the power outlet and you should fully charge your MacBook or MacBook Pro Laptop Battery, until the onscreen display reports you that the battery is fully charged.
  2. Next you need to use your Macbook for atleast 2 hours with the power adapted plugged in, so that the fully charged state is not disturbed while you can use the Laptop normally.
  3. Now the power adapted should be disconnected while the computer is still ON, so that the battery backup power is used. This should be used until you get a ‘low battery warning’ dialog on the screen.
  4. Once the battery is almost completed, the computer will automatically go to the Sleep Mode. Make sure that you save all yoru running programs & applications before the charge goes low and PC goes to sleep.
  5. You should keep the computer to sleep or Turn Off for five hours or more.
  6. Next start the computer and connect it to the Power Adapter until the battery gets completely charged. That’s it the whole process is completed and the Battery Power is Increased along with longer life and higher performance.

Thank you for your Tutorial. My question is, i did recharge my macbook pro fully, and then let it 2 hours on the power adapter and worked with it. After this, i had to go to sleep, and turned it off (I also have to work and sleep..). Do I have to work with it, untill the battery is down, and then start the process again, or can I do different?

    Thanks for your reply,

    Willem
