March 26, 2010 by Tony Stark 1 Comment

The Asus EEE PC is a subnotebook or net-book computer by Asus and a part of the Asus EEE product family. It was introduced in 2007 and is noted for is combination of low weight, Linux operating system, solid state drive and relatively low cost. The newer models have Windows XP operating system. The name EEE derives from its advertising slogan – Easy to learn, Easy to work and Easy to Play. The Asus EEE PC 1201N uses a dual core Atom processor. The Atom N330 gives the 1201N the ability to multitask in a way that Net-books normally never do. It has a 12 inch screen, a decent keyboard, dual core processor and NVIDEA Ion graphics chip set which makes it appear like a mini laptop than a large screen Net-book, yet it exceeded the standard Net-book expectations.

Asus Eee PC 1201N SeaShellThe Asus 1201N has a memory of about 2GB which can be expanded up to 8GB, DDR2 RAM 2GHz, hard drive is about 250GB with 5400rpm. It uses the Windows 7 operating system and weighs around 3.2 to 3.7 pounds with a starting price of 499$. The 1201N has a very sleek, black curved case and glossy shine which makes it very attractive. The keyboard is slightly smaller at the edges which make it more comfortable under prolonged use. It has a 12.1 inch glossy screen with 1366 x 768 pixels resolution which is the standard for high-end notebooks and gives the 1201N plenty of screen real estate. The colors and brightness are sharp and crisp. The speakers are embedded below the base, have ample volume and are good enough to enjoy videos without plugging in headphones. It has a 0.3 mega pixel webcam which is provided with the Cyber Link You-Cam software that give nice results in still shots and videos. With three USB ports, 802.11n, Wi-Fi and HDMI-out, the EEE PC offers a better package than most Net-books. The EEE PC 1201’s CPU innards are unique because it is the only dual core Atom Net-books running a processor which is mostly used in Atom based desktops. It is very useful in multitasking and preventing additional slow down when several programs were open. The NVIDEA Ion processor enables game play and enhanced video playback. The 1201N can play HD video files far better than other Atom based machines and can export 1080p video content.

Hence we can summarize as follows, the 1201N has both good and some bad features in it. The good include a dual core Atom processor, solid gaming graphics for a Net-book, large screen and its affordable features. The bad include an awkward touchpad and mediocre battery life. Hence we can conclude that the Asus 1201N is one of the few Net-books with a dual core Atom processor and NVIDEA Ion Graphics. The 12-1 inch EEE PC 1201N has superior performance compared with most Atom based machines!
