Apple iPhone India Price 31000Rs Will you buy it?

August 13, 2008 by Amit Bhawani

Apple iPhone IndiaAs per the latest sources iphone is going to be launched in India this month and you can book iphones online. The pricing issued by news sources are as follows :

Apple iPhone 8Gb – 31000Rs
Apple iPhone 16Gb – 37000-38000Rs

Now this pricing seems to be really high when compared to the iPhones sold in US because it just costs 200$ for a 8Gb iPhone and in India it comes to around 720 USD. Even if you go for a 3G iPhone when compared to subscription based model in US here is a small calculation – AT&T is currently selling unlocked legal iphones of 16Gb memory for 599$ + 6.5% = 650$ and at 43Rs/USD it comes to around 28000Rs. If you are going to buy a iPhone based on these calculations you should not be planning to pay more than 28000Rs for a iPhone in India though the source are claiming the pricing to much more at 38000Rs.

Apple iPhone IndiaWould you still plan to buy a Apple iPhone in India at this kind of pricing?

Dreams seems shattered :D. I had postponed my plan to buy new Nokia E series hoping iPhone will be the new revolution at the cheap prices, but the postpone seems to be useless.

Will be able to but 3 Nokia E-series at this price :D.

However I still feel that the prices of iPhone will fall to half of current expected price within a short period.

The iPhone really is overpriced… As Amar pointed out, you could get a much better phone, like N95 for example, for less than that. If you really need to get an iPhone, it will be worth the visit to the US to get it. More than 3 times more than in america? :S

    This is utter crap!
    I am not buying if for 28k or 16k either…let alone 37k.

Iphone hardware is terrible and i am already hearing quality issues with Iphone 3G from my US friends.

I’ll happily buy N95(vanilla) for 21k or Black ed for 28k.
If i had 37k…I’ll go for n96 when it comes out..and beat the hell outta this Iphone stuff.

Why are you guys comparing it to the $200 price tag in the US ?!! Don’t you realise that, $200 is subsidized price which the network providers pay. They are charging the users for incoming calls in the US and almost 25cents per minute on outgoing calls.

Do you want to be charged for incoming or make phonecalls for 10 rupees per minute ?! , no .. .so pay the non-subsidized price to apple which is 31k!

    End of!

  15. Prashanth says

    August 14, 2008 at 12:18 pm

anything above 15k is not worth it especially 3G not yet available in India. Having said that the fair and irresistible price would be 12K.

  16. Zerosleep says

    August 14, 2008 at 5:00 pm

firstly iPhone 3G is of no use in India as there is no 3G technology in India yet 😐
Secondly it is available for 8.5k in US and for Indians almost 4 times that price ? whose gonna buy it ?

  17. HArsha says

    August 15, 2008 at 8:00 am

I would go for it if it is sold in US for 1 lakh and not sold in india..
but if its available in india for 3k also i wonk go for it… Thers no identity in buying that!

I think this is outrageous and ridiculous pricing by Apple/Vodafone. I am not going to buy the iPhone for Rs. 31000. It simply does not make sense. Check out my blog for my views on iPhone pricing in India.

This is ridiculous pricing. I am quite interested to see the response in India with this price tag – but my guess is the numbers will be way off from what Airtel/Vodafone would have imagined given the amount of pre-registrations etc…

    Hi,
Would you buy a phone that:
    a) costs Rs 31000
    b) does not let you use Bluetooth for anything but headset
    c) Does not have any memory expansion slot
    d) does not let you change the Battery
    e) Does not let you sync if you are on a Linux desktop?
    f) Has 3G capability but wont be useful for about 2 years since there are no 3G networks in India.
    g) Is network-locked to Airtel or Vodaphone

If you answered yes to any of the above, then go get fooled into buying an iPhone!!!

Damn! my hopes for buying new iPhone has shattered down. It too expensive. Guys you are very true… its heavily priced…even it has a camera of 2.0 megapixel and no radio. Basically this device is not customized to servr the needs of Indian environment.

I have a Nokia N95 and much happy with this since last 8 months…if i have some more money would rahter prefer to buy Nokia N96…thats even coolest.

    No iPhone! at all.

It’s almost an year since i have been using iPhone. And it really is wonderful. But at this point, i won’t go for iPhone. I would rather go for Nokia Tube or Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA. Reason behind that is not the price, instead it is the looks and functions of the latter that prompt me.

And to all those who have commented in the post saying iPhone is expensive in India and available for 16k in US, well get the facts clear buddy! Do one thing. Get an iPhone from US for 16k and place it in your showcase. Coz that’s all you will get. I dont understand, you guys are free of contracts and so many boundations. Has it been the same case in US and if the iPhone was available for same price in US as in India, you all would have gone for it! So dear friends, the additional price is for your freedom. BTW, iPhone is available for 40K in HongKong (You considered HK always cheaper in electronics).

Just relax. The price is absolutely fair. It’s just the mind games killing you! 😉

Buying of I Phone worth Rs 31K is an stupid idea, instead of it better one should go for Nokia or other brand having same or better features in less price.
