This is in continuation to our previous article on Chetan Bhagat vs 3 Idiots.
Just after everything came out in front of the media against Vidhu Vinod Chopra where Chetan Bhagat had claimed that the story of 3 idiots was stolen from his book, and he was not credited for all that, there are 2 big points that made things go against Chetan although his fans won’t agree with the facts. There are instances where the movie and the book were similar and also different from each other.
The agreement signed by both Chetan Bhagat and Vidhu Vinod Chopra clearly stated these 2 facts –
- Chetan Bhagat has been paid Rs. 10,00,000 as a part of agreement. The makers had promised to credit the author of the book, but there was nothing about the position of the credit etc.
- On 27th December, Chetan Bhagat had tweeted happily that he was after all mentioned in the movie and he had not talked anything against it then. He posted a picture which showed that the name of the book and the author were in the list of credits.
If he was happy about the credits on 27th, then why the scene started on 31st just after 4 days? Was he unhappy that the movie went so popular and he was paid comparatively less for everything?
If he had signed that agreement well before the release of the movie, then why didn’t he show the agreement to any of his fans, or in his site? He never disclosed about the money to his fans! But we still can’t totally go against Chetan as the way Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajkumar Hirani had hid things from him prior to the release of the movie, would have hurt or made any writer worried about the things going on.
Aamir Khan is losing his fan base himself. There’s no need for him to react to all this, and go against Chetan Bhagat. He is just an actor, who is paid for what he has the talent for.
Observations
> Some say that it could be a planned publicity stunt by everyone, where the fans of Chetan Bhagat keep supporting him and Aamir’s fans go against Chetan. But its more sales for both, more “Five Points Someone” being sold on one side, and more collection for “3 idiots” on the other.
> Vidhu Vinod Chopra, at the press conference yesterday had shown his total anger on Chetan Bhagat and when questioned much, he bashed the press reporters too. But in the morning, had apologized for what he did, and stated the reason that his anger was all on Chetan who was trying to gain more publicity through the voice of Aamir Khan. This could be true too.
> Abhijat Joshi, the movie script writer who was writing the script since 3 years has kept silent since the start to the end. He gave no comments when asked about the story. Says “I’m a writer, and get paid to write. But not to talk”. That’s not a way to get off the whole controversy. You are one of those who can clear out the whole issue.
The issue keeps moving on both sides, and its gone so much complicated that one can’t decide whether Chetan Bhagat is right, or Vidhu Vinod Chopra is. No solution out yet, though Chetan has blogged that he ends the topic from his side.
Ya he was paid Rs. 10 Lakh for story adaptation and making into a movie rights. So what? I think he and his book deserved it and it does not prove him wrong and I am not even talking about how much the film earner here 🙂
http://bit.ly/3IdiotsControversy is my take on this whole controversy if anybody is interested.
