The New Google feature of Google Instant looks quite promising but its something which is not liked by everyone. Atleast i’m not a fan of this service which keeps showing me results till i end typing the Search Query. Hence Google has made sure that you can easily disable this feature from your browser directly. This new feature is getting the same amount of negative feedback like SearchWiki on which we had written a article Disable Google SearchWiki
The new Instant feature shows results as you type which is quite distracting and in order to completely turn it off you can implement any of the following two ways.
From Google Homepage :
When you visit the Google Search page you will find a small option next to the ‘Search’ button which says ‘Instant is on‘ which is a drop down link. Click on this option.
You will be shown with two options :
ON (type to search)
Off (Press Enter to search)
Once you press on the ‘Off‘ option you will be redirected to the same old Google Search where you have to press the ‘Enter‘ button to see the Search Results. This would get the task done but this is applicable for all the browsers when you disable the ‘Instant Search‘ by always clicking on this option. Once you delete the browser cookies the instant option would be back again, which can be fixed by the next option.
Setup under Google Preference :
If you want to turn off this feature completely, then its recommended to login to your Google Account following which whenever you login to your Google account and then access the Google Search page, this new feature would be automatically disabled. Next visit this link – http://www.google.com/preferences.
Here in you will find an option of – ‘Google Instant’ with the following two options out of which you will have to select one :
- Use Google Instant — predictions and results appear while typing
- Do not use Google Instant
Once you select the Do not use option, you will get back to the Default old Google Search with the same old type of results. Apart from this turning off this feature would also not give you personalized results which are based on your previous web history stored with your Google Account.
Nobody has noticed this feature that when query doesn’t meet our requirement, you have to scroll it up …..thank for this informative tip to disable it completely.
Are you only getting 10 search results when you google ? Have you tried setting your number of search results on your search preference page a over and over again only to get 10 results?!
The problem is someone at google massively goofed. They have a new thing called “Google Instant” that if it is clicked on your preference page no matter what you do you will only get 10 results!
Now mind you they say google instant will save gobs of time. Except I just spent about 2 hours trying to find how to get 100 results per page! And to add insult to injury I did not select this setting. Google must have foisted it on me with no option flagged to me. AWFUL!
Added Note: When I finally realized that the problem was not my computer and was indeed a problem engineered by google I thought that was the end of it. I could set my preference away from google instant and they would leave me alone.
This is not the case. I woke up this morning and first query of the day what do I see? Only 10 results! So I open the search preferences page again and there it is! Google instant is selected again!
Hey Google stop changing my search settings!
No wonder you Google creeps like Obama. You are social engineers just like him! You should take note of his plummeting approval polls. This is not good for business! Stop fudging with my search settings!
There is NO way of TURNING OFF Google Instant! It is permanent on Google UK and Google .com. However when using Google.de–Germany–it doesn’t appear unless you enable it!
I’m told it doesn’t appear in Safari nor Google Chrome–but an “update” for Chrome is imminent! Google doesn’t want anyone turning off their “Brain?child”! No email address where you can complain—the Google phone number never answers(how do they do business?—secret phone number, I guess!) Nobody at Google wants to hear complaints. Looking on ne end of Internet Forums, it’s clear there are a lot of unhappy Google users out there!
Wake up Google and get this c**p idea off our backs(screens!)
Give us back the options—Autofill and Search Preferences!
