Easily Compare Two Documents using Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word LogoGenerally, we don’t use Microsoft Word to the core, but Microsoft Word has some very excellent tools like right from some useful picture tools to excellent editing and formatting options, Word almost has it all. So let us see another feature which hardly anyone knows about it which is comparing the two documents. Now, this tool is very useful for the students who generally write essays for example as the two versions of the same essay topic can be compared very easily and that too effortlessly. If you know about this feature then you know sometimes how beneficial it will be.

So for people who are not familiar with this tool like I too got across with this tool yesterday, let’s check out the simple procedure on how you can compare and find the changes between the two documents.

Procedure to compare two Word documents:

  • First of all Open the Microsoft Word software program and then click on Review tab and then click on Compare button in the Ribbon.

  • After you click on Compare Documents option tab, you then will need to select the two documents from the drop down box, one will be the original document from where you have re written the document and another document which is revised document in which you have made changes as shown below.

  • Now, you need to click on more to view the comparison settings and need to check the data in the documents which you wanted to compare. After which you will have to check the fields and once you are satisfied click on Ok.

  • Now,you will have to open a window which displays the compared results, it will have a series of Columns and Panes where in the results are compared and are displayed on screen. The ones which are focused are compared document, original document and also Revised document.

  • Now, as you can see that in the compared document field, the changes between the two documents will be highlighted as shown below.

So, in this way you can compare the two documents very easily by following the above procedure. In this way there are many such hidden or unknown features in Microsoft Word which are basic yet powerful like to name a few, Add or change the background colour in the Microsoft Word Document or even you can convert all your Word Files into the JPG File format or even you can password protect your Microsoft Word document by setting up the password easily.
