It is a legal obligation for every Indian citizen to file the income and returns for every individual/HUF whose income is above the specified limit. To fulfill this obligation the first step is to register with the income tax of India through their website. Using the login id and password( in which case it is going to be secured) e-filing can be done online from anywhere in the world. The intended form should be selected according to the category. The various segregated categories are individuals, HUF (Hindu united family), Firms/AoP/BoI, Companies, Trust and FBT (Fringe Benefit Tax Return).
You determine which category you belong to in order to select category software which can be downloaded. Then the form is filled in offline. To submit the file one has to log in using the id and the password. Once the file is submitted, if there are no mistakes the file is accepted and an acknowledgment is shown.
There are 3 ways that the e-filing can be done. Since the first type uses the digital signature, so once it is done online and submitted no more verification is needed. The second type does not use the digital signature so verification form which can be printed out has to be filled in and posted to the nearest income tax office. The third type uses a intermediary, again it does not use digital signature so a verification form has to be sent to the nearest income tax office.
Online status can be seen by just logging on with the account created. The verification form has to be sent with 30 days of e-filing. The verification form has to be sent by ordinary post. Registered post, speed post and courier services are not entertained by the department. The official website of the Indian income tax department is excellent. Even persons with meager computer skills can operate on this site. They even have a demo version which explains the process of e-filling in a simple easy method.

I tried my, pan, e-mail id, password given at the time to register with income tax department’s web site. but could not open.
Please also let me know if i am not able to open then what next i need to do.
