Are you planning to buy an EV anytime soon? Do you live in an Individual House or a housing society? Get ready for some extra benefits from the State Government. This is a new announcement made by the Maharastra Government for the citizens who are planning to set up a charging station at their homes.
This week, the Maharastra Govt has announced that they are planning to make sure that by 2025 they would have 10% Electric Vehicles registered and along with this their intra-city public transport buses would also switch to electric with a target of 25%. Considering these numbers, this is a big plan for the next 3 years because the public transport generally goes into big numbers and if the switch happens, we can look at a good jump in the EV Adoption.
The Urban Development Department has shared a circular that gives concessions to housing societies and individuals setting up electric charging stations in the state. Now let’s look at the Benefit the govt is offering.
If you are an individual setting up a charging station and also allowing others to use it, you get a 2% rebate in the property tax, while if you are a housing society then the rebate would be 5%.
Though you should make a note that as a housing society, the parking space cannot be used as a charging station but a common space that’s unused should be allocated for the same. Now, this is a welcoming decision because these kinds of announcements and actions from the government do motivate and also give an example that other states can follow to push the EV ecosystem. Looking forward to more announcements like these from different states in the near future.
